Where was Tucker , again. His utter lack of speed was very evident tonight. Connerway was pushed around all night. Bailey was his usual tissue self. Lamar did ok.
We have to sit through another two seasons of this shit at a minimum because IU is loathe to admit a mistake. Can’t wait to see who the next moron IU hires is.
I’m waiting for the ineptitude of the athletics department to eventually rub off on Cignetti. Then we’re really screwed.
I don't worry about Cignetti changing but he's not really a spring chicken. I hope his health holds up and he's not eyeing early retirement.
Really not much good to say, right now. I guess with a little over 11 minutes to go, we were tied with MSU, at Breslin. But it didnt really feel like we were in it, even then. And then the downside of the effort and focus consistency issues hit, and….yeah.
Gotta get Saturdays game. Tonight was the first game I saw some “mail it in” type attitudes. That ain’t good if that continues.
I know CDD had to put this team together on the fly but I’m wondering if he underestimated what he would need to compete in the B10. This team looks like he was thinking he was still at Drake. This looks like the JV vs the varsity. It is hard for this team to compete over a whole game with this limited talent. Playing hard only gets you so far. It is hard to watch when you know the outcome.
he doesn't know what he's doing. Did he watch any game tape of the conference or hell did he ever watch a big ten game on tv in his life. Or an sec game or an acc game. Shit he coached a big 12 team , was he asleep , well maybe he was, that dynamic personality he has , maybe he has narcolepsy. Cut bait time to move on
Looking like another bad hire but since crean they all have been some no surprise. Is not a surprise his mid major team is losing its a mid major team. Sadly less and less people even care anymore so that might actually buy dd time.

This is iu doesn't he get four years. Lol.
Very true at one time ... but not anymore. Cig changed the math for IU (and every other P4 school, for that matter).

I was joking but knowing iu I kind of wasn't. Well at least assembly hall be sold out once this winter.
less than two hours, Assembly Hall sold out for Monday's watch party for the College Football Playoff national title game. #iufb

If he wins a national title he can retire in the post game press conference for all I care. That being said, he is signed through 2033. That is a lot of cash to pass up by retiring early. I assume he goes to the doctor and receives good medical care. There are lots of coaches who worked into their 70s- Saban, Paterno, Mack Brown, Kirk Ferentz, Bill Snyder, Bobby Bowden.
@iugradman he gets next year and if the roster isn’t good again and he can’t cut it, then it’s time to move on. I get your sentiments and frustration. Just don’t see outside of a scandal how it can be one and done.
Agree he will get a chance to repair his roster. If next season is bad, seat will be hot. Cignetti did prove you can be successful immediately, but he's also a much more experienced coach. He worked with Saban at Alabama, he knows what kind of players he needs to play high level football
After the great run we have had, we were due for a down year.
It was never gonna last forever. Gotta enjoy those great coaches when you have em.
Davis, Crean, Miller, etc
People love to bash our former coaches. As time continues to pass I have developed some sympathy for them. IU is a brutal, tough place to coach. Come here and you risk it being a coach killing decision. I know people don’t want to consider it, but the problem may not be solely with all of the coaches that we have hired. Perhaps the problem is IU. Would Dusty May have been the solution, for example? Part of me wonders if he would be just another coach struggling to stay off the hot seat had he come here.

But why is that if true? Many will say it's too much of a fishbowl and the fans expectations of simply making the tournament with an occasional run every few years are way too high? But the fans aren't even interested this year so I don't buy that.

to some extent that's true but are you telling me it's not the case elsewhere. At Duke at NC at Kansas at UCONN, at Kentucky. Sure it is. It's the pinnacle of their profession. Those types of coaches don't look at that in fear they look at it with saliva in their mouths. Hoping for the opportunity. That said I think IU gets in its own way. I think Cig has perhaps opened their eyes as to what it possible and how it needs to be implemented. His 60 minutes interview where he mentions facilities that hadn't but touched since the 80's. These are the things along with their Quaker like approach to the world. Need to shed that and join the 21st century. Remember we are the University that told on ourselves about phone calls. Phone calls that were in the verge of being legal. I mean I'm not advocating they lie if asked but to tell on ourselves. Jesus. This program can be saved but they will need to act unconventionally. They lucked into Cig. Dolson didn't foresee this happening, the DD hire was a weak and pathetic move. It's like anything could be better than Woody , which for some reasons it is, but don't make that decision solely based on that. Which seems to be what he did.

I am not blaming the fans, or blaming expectations. I am also not exactly sure why but I suspect it had to do with the IU basketball organization (which includes past admin, current admin, boosters, etc.).
Davis was a puppet. When he said he wanted to change “everything “ about IU basketball does anyone believe that was him talking? Or Brand and company?
The Patriots are successful because it starts at the top. Now, how does Cig fit in then? Well, a couple of things. IU basketball and IU football are different entities. Second, his success came about because he did things his way, and changed the culture. He had the support of the admin, but maybe that just means they stayed out of his way. This is similar to Knight. He came in and did things his way, even upsetting the old guard in the process. He had the personality to pull a complete culture change off.
we don’t need a new coach. We need a new culture. Ironically enough it may be more difficult to change the IU basketball culture than it was to change the football culture.
Football had no culture. It was a blank slate. There were no boosters meddling. Cignetti is a unicorn. No one else in the country could do what he did.
