@hoosiers94 Supposedly the bigs we went after wanted too much $? Sure would like to pay for one right now!

I’m thinking 17-14 after last night.

@auburnhoosier….The Barn was half full at best and never got rocking IMO. The game was  there for the taking and we blew it. Being 8-16 on ft’s doesn’t help!

sure.  I'd take one at their price and sacrifice Harris, Dorn and Bailey

funny how some other team justified it.

With some FIRE, we win that game last night. They didn't play all that great.

The only guys that appeared to be hustling were Alexis, Conorway, and Enright. And Enright played very poorly for him.

Wilkerson even had a hang dog look about him when he was getting guarded closely in the first half. Saw his guy turn to follow a different shot and Wilkerson just stood there and watched. To his credit he had stretches later in the game where he was moving. But it seemed like it took coach to say something to him. Can't have that. All guys need to be going 100%. And though 110% is a stupid cliche, these guys have another gear they rarely use, so go 110%!

Disappointing opening to conference play but it's done. All we can do is hope for a rebound and lessons learned, as much of a cliche as that is. This is our coach and team for this season.

@ams66 woody teams get dog walked by LOU Saturday.  If we get the shit beat out of us ill want to fire DD.  Better come to play like your life depends on it.  Can't have anything less being undersized, not as athletic, or talented.

He can show us a lot by making it a competitive game, doesn't even need to win but it has to be competitive.  I promise LOU will come to play.

@openwheel Your post makes perfect sense, but I don't think it was an effort issue. IU is slow and easy to defend, which may very well look like lack of effort.

The Hoosiers get hammered on the boards because they don't have rebounders, plain and simple. Bailey was the leading rebounder with 4. FOUR! Against a Minnesota squad missing half its team.

@gthomas It’s not black and white.  Everyone knows this team has glaring deficiencies but they’ve often been able to overcome it through effort and solid fundamentals.  I don’t think we were just more overmatched against Minnesota than we were against Marquette or Kansas State.  I think it was pretty clearly a lack of effort and focus on both ends.

@jj_mcclure Lack of effort or lack of talent, it really doesn’t matter. Either way, it's a bit alarming. And this isn't a one-off. Indiana has yet to play a good team--they've struggled too often against inferior opponents. Even Woody didn’t lose to a Quad 3 last season.

Beat Louisville on Saturday and fans will exhale. Get bodybagged and the thought will be, Here we go again.

I think the Jekyll version of Dolson hired Cig, while Hyde tabbed DD.

I’m not giving up on Devries after one clunker.  Our team is made up of a bunch of mid-major guys who are going to have to scrap and claw just to try and be .500 in conference.  Even when IU had really good teams, we’ve stunk up there at that arena.

Devries was good at Drake.
The early wins were fool’s gold.  We played nobody.  This year had growing pains written all over it before we even played a game.
Out kids play hard, they are just limited in their abilities.

Woody had infinitely more talent on his teams.  He had 4 star signees and landed what was considered a top portal class and still managed to absolutely suck.  He was so in over his head.  This roster is limited.  It isn’t like we got high end kids from Duke, Kentucky and Kansas.
We’ll be okay.  Maybe not this year but this won’t look anything like Woody teams.

This roster is limited.

And whose fault is that? Maybe DD shouldn't have focused on building around his kid.

@gthomas

There's a clear difference between being overmatched, and lack of effort. I saw poor mental attitudes when the going was tough. So, not surprisingly we had trouble making the going less tough.

You think DeVries dunk getting blocked was because he was just not a good enough athlete? Sure, he wasn't a good enough athlete to dog it and still score. But that's a poor mental attitude and lack of effort.

Problem is that if we stink this year it will be even more difficult to pull quality players from the portal.

So it adds just one year to the rebuild. Woe is us.

We're still better off, and despite roster construction misses, I think we're in much better hands and will become a strong program.

Sounds like from what people here guess, if they have any validity (may not...) Coach DeVries didn't really get the same level of buy in or support that Coach Woodson received. So that 'buy in' may take an extra year. Or two if this year is weak.
