A football school now... now that's not all bad ... very happy about that. But would love to be feared in both sports. Hard to hear though as the Dance starts yet again without us
this was in the Tru TV pregame show prior to the Howard and UMBC game
I wore my football school shirt to the last few bball games I went to this year.
Its true - no arguing about this! IUBB has been in the gutter for 25 years - noting new except out football team is now good -and, we should enjoy this while it lasts! Cig will not be here forever and I fear that when he leaves, football will will see the same spiral bb as when Knight was let go.
We all need to be praying DD ends up being a good hire and basketball gets turned in the right direction. I would also pray that Haines is the fb coach in waiting in hopes of continuing fb success.
I doubt the Lord cares much if we win a title versus other schools. Maybe, we are a blue blood after all.
On the positive media side, Chuck Barkley said during the broadcast just before last nights' Texas - NC State game, to Jamal Mashburn, that playing at Kentucky Rupp Arena, and at Indiana was a privilege. Sure, he said it 'when I was there" and referenced Bobby Knight, but any pub is good pub.

yeah but chucks getting old in the tooth nowadays and he's speaking to us older guys. Not many younger ones are listening anymore. Was it good pub sure I'll take it but it's sentimental and nothing more

Perfect example:
my youngest son is a freshman in HS, played Varisty this year , is on the UA Rise AAU circuit. Now that's not P5 level player but he likely will get D2/3 and if he develops enough small D1. So IU nor the likes are in the conversation.. that said , he's told me on many occasions he wouldn't go play at IU. He says it seems a mess and they're never any good. He'd rather play for Painter... even walk on there. Which I have to bite my tongue but it's my son so you know how that goes. Point being is he nor any of his teammates on circuit nor some of those we know that are on adidas or Nike etc many don't have IU in their radar. But they do have Purdue on it. Just one example but I dare say it is not relegated to just my sons circle
... He says it seems a mess and they're never any good....
I can't fathom where he may hear such things! 🤣 J/k Good luck to your boy in his playing career!

you would think that one of these decades all the people continually bashing IU would end up being wrong, but that just hasn’t been the case.
there is no such thing as being too negative. Some are just earlier than others.

don't really ever talk that way with him. We watch the games together.. he sees it. I don't have to say a thing
Yes, you'd think. Just joking around. I came back to edit, but since I've been quoted I'll leave it.
We had some success under Tom Crean. So maybe not decades. Sweet 16s and high ranking, while not enough, sure is a distance memory now that would feel good to have.
It still irritates me that Dolson said that DeVries was promised the Carr gm position when DeVries was hired. So, they took 10 months to to get someone in place? That's bizarre.
Yep. They just seem unorganized to me.
and I speak the truth to him .. why wouldn't I. And when he mentions Purdue and Painter. Hard to refute it.

Barkley also stated in the age of the portal no coach should have two bad years in a row and basically keep his job. Now if DD has another bad year I am sure there will be excuses but he is right it should not take three years to turn a program around in this day and age.
@hoosiers94 Obviously don't know you or your son so not directed specifically, but most kids are only aware of what they remember. Some will go back and look at history but even then what is happening now is what is real. I would guess that IU would quickly be back on the radar of kids if we had a couple of years of solid winning. Look how many HS and portal players are interested in IU Football now... They don't care that it's still historically one of the worst programs there ever has been.

very true but at age 15 in his entire life they have not been any good that he can remember... obviously the 2012-13 season etc he doesn't remember.. to your point but only making the tournament twice in the last 10 years. That about says it all.
@ams66 My oldest is a senior in HS... he's an IU fan, but I'd say a bit of a fair weather IU fan. He jumped on the football bandwagon hard the last couple years, wears IU gear all the time now. He still reposts basketball stuff from time to time, and still refers to IU bball in the possessive "We and our" ways. He's going to play at an NAIA school next year... but I suspect if if IU were interested in him as a walk on, he'd drop everything and drive to Bloomington that day.
My other kids... they became big IU football fans, but I'd say they really don't care a ton. Kids nowadays, most of them anyways, aren't nearly as interested or loyal to specific teams. Whatever they can follow on shorter youtube clips, reels, etc... And to the larger point, IU basketball hasn't really given people born in the late 90s or so, on, much of anything to cheer for.
I feel like I've accomplished something with even one of my kids being any sort of active IU bball fan. Football has helped the whole thing immensely.
