@hoosiers94 Its also elastic. And Woodson probably had quite a lot more elasticity with his NIL budget than a first year, non IU legend, CDD had/has. He's going to have to win some games. He's doing everything else right. All the PR stuff. Staying after the first game to thank fans. That'll all pay huge dividends...IF... he wins. If he doesn't, it'll look fake and forced.
Imagine starting a new job at a very established, large company. How comfortable are you going to your bosses in the first few days, weeks, even months on the job asking for increases in resources? Year 3 or 4, having a previous history at that company...yeah, going and asking for the budget to hire some people, to spend more on a project, etc... is quite a lot easier, and more natural.
When a coach clearly can't succeed here, I'm in favor of firing them ASAP. But we're not firing the coach after one year.
It's not very exciting, but at the end of the day in Season 1 CDD needs to make the tourney without much drama. That's good progress. Of course squeaking in on the bubble or missing the Field of 68 would be concerning.
And it's also not very exciting, but our ceiling this year is probably winning one tourney game... maybe two. It's a rebuild. Our roster has limitations. It's not like we're competing to win the conference this year or trying to make a deep tourney run.
i wish there was a bookmark button for some of the first regular season game hot takes in these threads.
@iureactionary you better buckle up buddy. You haven’t heard anything yet. No agenda here. Straight calling like it is. You might learn a thing or ten
@tammany that should get him fired IMO. Expectations should be a deep run this year. His team next year will be worse. And I’m not in this shit for 4 year rebuilds.

Well, you’re going to be disappointed.
And I never said he should get four years. I think we’ll know if he’s good after one or two and he’ll get at least three.
@tammany we will know this year. His son is the best player, he’s not getting someone of his caliber to come in the transfer portal next year, and we have no stud freshmen coming.
@cavanagh Very few freshman make a difference.
We’re clearly doomed. I’m surprised you even watch at this point.

Im 100 with you Cavanagh. Calling things as they are is reality Can't stand sunshine pumpers and rose colored glasses
@kkott I think being competitive with the top teams, and ultimately finishing in the top 3rd of the conference, year 1... is a reasonable expectation. Other coaches have done it with complete rebuilds. May had a few guys back, but most of his roster last year for UM was new, and really all his main contributors were new. There are a decent chunk of schools that also had to rebuild, with lesser resources. So if he finishes middle of the pack, would he have "outperformed" really any B10 coaches?
But, I don't think if he finishes outside top 6, that he should be fired. 7th place will almost assuredly safely make the NCAA tournament. In fact, outside a near bottom of the B10 finish, AND the culture and vibe in the locker room going to complete shit... I don't think he would deserve getting fired after year 1, for much of any result.
But if he finishes at or below .500, misses the NCAAs, then I would have serious concerns whether he's the guy for IU. And I'd be pretty consistent sharing those concerns on this board, and in real life to people. And I'm sure many others would too.
Top 3 with this roster would be quite an accomplishment. Purdue, Michigan, Wisconsin, UCLA and MSU all look pretty good. Illinois is a big wild card, but those foreign kids are highly rated. So...that's 6 we're likely behind. I think we're somewhere in the next group with USC, Washington, Iowa, Oregon and Maryland. Stirtz from Iowa is a great player, the best players from Drake transferred there, and Cooper Koch returns. I think we finish behind them. Washington, USC and Oregon have decent rosters and competent coaches. I don't see any particular reason to think we finish ahead of all 3.
I'll give you Maryland and probably OSU just on coaching ?s. And we should be better than MN, Neb, NW, PSU, and Rutgers.
Just play the games and analyze game to game. We’ve seen 1 game. Like all teams we have strengths and weaknesses. I’m looking forward to seeing the adjustments made in-game and if we are able to finish games in the last 4 minutes
@tammany someone has to keep the dream of being elite alive 😜
@iunorth This take reminds me of when the topic of my 80 yrs. of age arose with my grandson and he advised me that he read of a 90 yr. old running a full marathon. I should hang my head. 🙁

Agree that next year right now looks pretty bleak:
--6-11 A. Acimovic
--6-8 J. Harris
--6-7 N. Dorn
--6-7 T. Sisley
--6-7 J. Miles
--6-6 V. Karuala
--6-4 A. Rostic
--6-4 P.A. Moody
--6-2 J. Drake
Assuming we keep 6 or so of those guys....there are some pieces there, but none of star quality. We'd likely need 2 guys at the Devries/Wilkerson level to be decent, plus a couple experienced role players.
It's critical that CDD over-achieve this year so we're attractive to the portal. Also, getting a good '26 big would be a big morale boost.
Marquette's a big game.....
@hoosiers94 revenue sharing also kicked in which jumped a lot of other schools way up for total money available. its not all just NIL raised funds.
Woodson squandered the best opportunity in 30 years to get ahead.

lmao...yeah, i've already got some of yours saved.
