I don't believe in "house money" games--I think it's an idiotic concept because every team in every sport has something to lose--but the only way IU's NCAAT meter moves in the wrong direction is an Illinois blowout. A competitive loss won't have much analytical impact ... and a win would be gargantuan.
I daresay a win equals a tourney bid as long as IU doesn't go all Titan submersible in the other six.
@gthomas I agree. Basically anything other than a Blowout or a major injury
A shootout between Wilkerson and Wagler would be fun. They could score 80 between them if they are both hitting.
I may be in the minority as an IU fan, but Illinois is my most hated rival. More hated than Purdue. More hated than Kentucky. In fact, living 35 miles from that campus is actually too close for my comfort. (What can I say? I live in the wrong Bloomington.)@gthomas I agree. Basically anything other than a Blowout or a major injury
For anyone wondering why, I can explain in two words: Lou. Henson.
@gthomas If IU and Illinois played more in football it'd be a more recognized rivalry, but it's up there with Purdue and UK for me
Agree! Although, I live in Lafayette so Purdue still at least 1b for me- but I too hate everyone IllinoisI may be in the minority as an IU fan, but Illinois is my most hated rival. Felt like Devries was under the weather today and full of dayquil in his presser.
Has the flu/cold bug made its way completely through the team.
unfortunately, we are catching them at home off 2 straight loses and possibly getting a player back- not a great combination imo. I expect a 14-20 point loss that seems worse than the final. Just don’t know how we keep pace or slow them down.@gthomas I agree. Basically anything other than a Blowout or a major injury
@ge-off Yeah them losing two in a row is not a great sign
vs. Illinois/Purdue/MSU
- 0-3. Not good, but it's not NCAAT death. Leaves little room for error in the other four games and the BTT 1st Round, however.
- 1-2. Acceptable ... and the most likely outcome, imo. Tbh, I might take it right now and run.
- 2-1. Very good. In golf lingo, it would gain strokes on the field.
- 3-0. If this happens, I'll have to seriously rethink my earlier assessments of DD.
_____________
I don't pay attention to ESPN's nonsensical predictor, but my analytics say...
@ Illinois: 75/25 Illinois
@ Purdue: 60/40 Purdue
vs. MSU: 51/49 IU
@gthomas I agree with you. If I had to put money on it, IU goes 1-2 and gets the MSU game at home. 3-0 would be awesomely shocking and 0-3 would be shockingly deflating.
@gthomas I live in Chicago area and agree Illinois has easily surpassed Purdue as most hated rival. The amount of bitching about bad ref calls from Illini fans is nauseating.
I could see us hanging with them for the first half on Sunday but see us losing by 15-20 in the end.
@iugrad84 I just saved IU from embarrassment Sunday! I took Illinois by 15+ on DK- we are now guaranteed to lose by no more than 14!
