i think you're right that IU won't have the balls to do that after year 1.  Although if I'm an NIL contributor and yet another year of my sizable donation goes to waste I'm thinking twice about giving again. And when I was a NIL contributor to VU that's what I did.  Poor performance... waste of my money

Woody was flush with cash in year 4.  Strange that donors have no trouble handing out the dough for a dumpster fire coach like him but might be reluctant to give to DeVries.

@surjay So?  The players on this team won 0 games at IU last year.

Also, this isn't the MVC or whatever conference Drake was in.  High major coaching is a different animal.

Anyhow I hope he sorts it out.  Maybe Dorn's had a breakthrough.

um because there's only so much people will be willing to give before they say "hard pass".  You can't go to the well time and time again with failure and expect to coffers to be full. No different than political fundraising ...

they will tire of writing checks for piss poor  results. This isn't ND where those righteous folks give out of guilt and ego of their own fairy tale existence.

Not sure I agree. Effort in the last 4-5 games to me had been questionable as a whole. Some players , like Enright have brought it each night.  Despite his limitations.  I don't see this shaping into anything more than a wasted year once again.
I'm tired of consolation prizes.  When will we get serious about winning  again. And frankly CDD spent 1 year at WVU.  Not unreasonable that he could only spend one here.  Just different circumstances.  And if I'm a donor and we continue to shit the bed I'd rather pony up for a new coach than give this nonsense anymore money.  At least I have a chance to gain some better results.  This roster can't compete in any conference.

I believe the money went to Cig and Woodson. But when DeVries arrived, was when the price of poker skyrocketed, Indiana had to play small ball in basketball.

Part of that is DeVries doesnt have the charisma of a Cignetti.

Cignetti said in this weeks press conference (or the title game post conference) that he came to Indiana with a certain commitment of player spending, but when the price of what we needed was higher, that first winter, our commitment he said basically doubled. That fast. In other words my reading is he showed Dolson what he needed, and he was convincing. I dont think DeVries has that strong of a personality.

I think DeVries will get what he needs though. But it may take a little while. Show the intermediate results first. DeVries is a pro coach. No doubt in my mind he will get us near the top within a few years. To the top? I dont know. Ill take near.

I'm nowhere near as pissed or disappointed as PUke fans are during this early season.

I'll refrain criticism or compliments for the season from the catbird seat I share until it's over.  I really find it hard to say Coach Devries has "his" players in Bloomington.  Yes he brought them in but the menu selection was from the menu offering.  With much favorability I am enjoying the brand of basketball Coach Devries favors.  Unlike anything we saw the biggest part of this last decade.  The portal will be a strong supportive provider this next go around because Devries is an effective communicator to bring that in focus to Dolson.

Hopefully we figured something in the last 25 minutes or so.  Last year's team rolled over, and lost to a lesser Louisville team by a ton.  This one figured some stuff out, and made a game of it, against a much better Louisville team.  We'll see what we look like Tuesday and Saturday.  Penn State is 8-1, and playing decent ball.  And then obviously UK has elite levels of talent.  Beat Penn State, play well at Rupp win or lose, and maybe we're back on track a little bit.

@hoosiers94 I am finding myself more and more into IU football now. The bbal program really does not excite me much anymore  and neither did this hire. After watching Saturday I dont see any reason to get super excited about this season. Maybe he will prove me wrong but does not look great.

PSU hasn't played anyone.  Got blasted by Providence, squeaked by Harvard, Navy, and Fairfield.  ESPN analytics gives us a 91% chance of victory.  Lose and the season is likely over.

@dbmhoosier yep. PSU has only played 1 sub 200 KP team so far and lost by double digits. Their next bext opponent is rated 197.

Obviously, this is a must win at this point. Probably a 'must win comfortably' game to even get reset heading into Rupp.

how do you explain not being able to bring even 1 player from WV with him?  Honest question... it seems like a red flag to me. ??  Maybe I'm wrong

WE gave Bailey a million dollars, that should get him fired if we miss the tourney after year one.  Again, next year there is no chance in hell we are better than this year if we miss the tourney.  Who the hell is coming to IU in the transfer portal better than his son?  We gonna magically get him to actually go after the talented players next year instead of the mid major guys he thinks fit his system?  This year will tell us everything it won't get better, good programs don't sit around and see.  Thats what we have done for the three previous coaches.  When someone tells you who they are, listen!

@cavanagh I'm not sure we can fully judge Dolson just yet and I have given him plenty of grief over the years.

Archie was Glass's guy.

Woodson would have never been considered if not for Buckner's meddling. That was a forced hire and giving him a 4th year was also forced. Dolson was ready to move on as it was clear to all what Woodson could and could not do.

I doubt Dolson just sits on his hands and lets DDV coach for years without success.

@cavanagh That was the "market" for Bailey.  There are NAIA bigs getting high 5 to low 6 figure NIL deals.  A 6'10", first team All A10 guy, that was seen as "emerging", was going to command high 6 to low 7 figures on that portal market.  The only justification I can give it though, at this point, was CDD assumed we'd also get in on some other, more physical bigs than we ended up landing.  Someone that Bailey could play alongside.  As it happened, we got Alexis (good get), and the other guy we got has been injured (Harris).  But I just have to think that CDD thought he'd be able to land someone like the Baylor big that we were mentioned with for a brief second, or that we'd get Flory, or someone like that.

IF...IF...CDD recruited Bailey to be THE center... and all his efforts after that were building interior support around him... then yes, I can't get behind that approach.  That's how it ended up playing out, so I guess the scoreboard says what it says... but I refuse to believe CDD thought he was THE answer for our starting 5 man.  There's zero chance he didn't have an idea on what he'd be facing in the B10, and still thought hed be good with Reed Bailey as his focal point big.

@hoosiers94 Our thoughts on the hire and IU basketball in general are damn near the same. (I think we're in the minority.)

In any case, I think DD will do fine, but, as you mentioned, he doesn't and likely won't move the needle.

Here is how I view the two coaches...

CIG

DeVries
