@gros-louis Not to mention... CDD's last two teams couldn't possibly be more different in how they played, and how they were constructed. He is going to have to rebuild most of the team over the next few weeks. Its what he's had to do the last two offseasons, and he didn't do it the same way in those two cases... so its certainly not a given he'll build the same type of team this time around. Then factor in this is his first offseason in the portal era, where he's had an intact staff, is at the same school, has the resources he'll have this year with a GM and likely very competitive NIL funds... Its certainly not a guarantee, or even likely, that he'll produce a Michigan like turnaround... but there are quite a lot of new and different dynamics at play this time around... and he's already shown he doesn't necessarily always follow the same script.
@ams66 Oh for sure... Just throwing out there that its not any sort of given that we'll see a team next year, that's similar in style and makeup to this years team. Until we start seeing who the players are going to be, I'm not overly "excited" about it. But if he is able to fill a roster with talent, length, and athleticism, obviously that'll be reason for excitement. It is possible to be both excited about the new roster, AND skeptical and wary that it'll produce better results, at the same time.
Not to be argumentative but I truly don't understand the idea of anyone needing to cut the coach slack. He wasn't the only coach turning over rosters.
...
Cant be argumentative, when my ending indicates I was being sarcastic about that point. It's not really what I believe.
I don't think it flies at all when compared to other new hires. Good coaching shows up out of the gate, and then newer or younger teams improve maybe a bit more than others over the season. Iowa made the tourney after all. And kicked our ass. Im sure others with first year coaches are in or did well.
But I probably with some others used it as an excuse at times this year. It flies when it's in comparison to coaches who turned over rosters but at their same job. That's a lot easier. St. Johns? Come on, they have the same coach! Who was recruiting and probably tampering all year. Same with most of those other names.
That's why next season, DeVries better show chops. Because who he gets now, will be under much better circumstances for recruiting than last spring.
The team needs completely transformed, at the same level as last year's transformation. So we are simply repeating last year over again. I don't see any performance improvement impacts of a program overhaul different from a new coach or an existing one. Yes, if the existing coach has lots of returning talent, that is not a comparable position. But turning over your entire starting lineup is the same regardless of tenure, in the modern era. But sure, we can play make believe and say it's not.
I mean, objectively, that's kinda dumb. I'm not arguing he should get a pass for the roster this year, but to say that this year, where he has a staff in place and has for the whole year, vs last year, where he was putting a staff together (that people seemed pretty universally excited about) is a pretty big difference. Throw in that we now have Carr, then you should be in a much better position and have a better roster next year (assuming we have money). Anyone not recognizing that there's a difference (can argue how much of a difference, I guess) is just being obtuse.
Why does he keep getting a pass for not hiring a staff in time I just do not get it? How did Virginia hire a staff so quick and win 29 games when they hired their coach three days after DD. ? I can see we our program is in the toilet we always have an excuse for missing the tourney. And the way this carr guy is being touted he sounds like some sort of a miracle worker so I will expect very very big things from him.

Less of an excuse and more of a simple reason for certain things. It was self-inflicted, so its still on the staff but it shouldn't be a problem this year.
I'll reserve judgement until we can see what portal class he gets with a full year to prepare and have the help of Carr. They should already have an idea of what they need and who might be available. Now, if there are holes in the frontcourt or backcourt, then it won't be good. Also, I'm sure football took priority this year.

Speaking of obtuse...
anyway, did you not read the words "I'm not arguing he should get a pass for the roster this year"?
And either way, whether his staff was hired before, the same or after everyone else's last year, THIS YEAR, he has a complete staff for the entire cycle and even if he had hired all of his staff the day after he was hired last year, that is a better situation than we would have had last year.
The last two portal cycles have proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt you can put zero credibility on the recruiting services portal rankings.
Which means it will be the second week of December '26 before anyone anywhere knows what sort of team Indiana is next season.
Best to go full Rip Van Winkle and not get hyped up on Sunshine or the Bitching angles.
Train, say your prayers, eat your vitamins, be true to yourself, true to your country, be a real Hoosier.
Given Tucker was ranked 18th and Bailey 36th yeah I would say even if we have the #1 class we have no idea until we see them play. Portal rankings have been proven to be crap

I am just sick of this. If we were not spending big money it would be one thing but when we keep paying top big ten salaries it should not be this hard to simply make the tournament. It really should not be this hard.
You laugh, but what else can we do but wait and hope?
Have to cut the coach some slack, we had early ugly losses to Minnesota and Kentucky. But the team was all-new! It takes awhile to really learn and buy in to what the coach is teaching and demanding. Once we had better health, and all cylinders firing for the final NCAA stretch run, we... Uh, nevermind.
dude you're delusional.... shut up and cheer right. Stop trying to gaslight people. That team sucked. It was terrible... as weak as that bubble was and we are outside looking in .. it's pathetic. Anything other than that assessment won't allow for improvement. and I just saw you are kidding

Iowa turned over a roster, at a lesser-known program and is in the tourney. St. Johns turned over all of their contributors and they are a 5 seed. NC State did and they are in the tourney. Cincy took on 7 guys and they too are likely in the tourney. Texas A&M took 10 players and they are squarely in the tourney. Virginia 7 players, likely a 4 seed. Even UCF, they took on TWELVE players and look to be in the tourney. The list genuinely continues but you get the point. In the past, I agree, we needed to wait it out and see. In the modern era, with the money we have, there is absolutely positively no reason we should not be in the tournament every year, at a minimum. Be it year 1 or year 20.

a fucking men
2nd in the conference in NIL should not equate to 10th place. Just sayin'.
