Valid opinions across the board, but it's fairly simple when you think about it...

Mid-major players + Mid-major coach = This

We simply don’t have a roster that could ever compete in the top half of the conference. We’re so modest talent-wise that I’m not sure you can even judge DD’s in game coaching at this point. We’ll need another massive re-build to fix it for next season, and we’ve basically admitted we have to approach that endeavor much differently next season if we hope to achieve a better result.

Would love to know what DeVries believed could happen this year when he assembled this team, but we’ve seen what did happen, and it’s obviously not good enough. Worse, we could see what was coming a few months ago and had to just sit and watch it happen. Very difficult to be confident about the future with this guy at the wheel. Just hope the help he’s bringing in will result in a reset.

no confidence here... doesn't take 3 years to see it.  It's clearly posterity at this point

You could see a few months ago that we’d be fortunate to get to the middle, at best. DeVries isn’t going anywhere for another couple of years, so talk of him getting the boot is wasted. Leadership is the foundation of winning. We don’t have it.

we don't have it you're right. But sitting silent isn't an answer to me .. they likely won't fire him but they aren't blind either .. when they see empty seats, read articles of apathy and simply just watch the games they see it.  So to have more fan noise endorse it perhaps it helps them move faster this time ...

He’ll get a minimum of three years, even if we’re no better next season. Empty seats have been a thing for over a decade as the wait list for tickets has evaporated. What used to be a tough ticket is anything but now, but that revenue isn’t so vital that we’ll move on a first (or second) year coach.

why ?  Because that's the way we've always done it.  Just love that excuse. Well then we will get what we deserve for not evolving and adapting.  Crap mediocre results.

very shitty business model.  Oh my sales department is rocking it so I'll just ignore my service department cause I don't need anymore profit I've got enough.  The reason the football program was so shitty was before we took that approach because basketball was great.  We ignored football. Dumb as the day is long.  Let's excel at all things or least try to ...

Yep. We’ve hired poorly due to failed leadership, and those leaders have obviously been poor stewards of the program (pre and post NIL). We keep buying shitty cars and then, in the face of numerous breakdowns, we get a new paint job. It’s maddening. But fan support is fading and has been for years. What used to be a wait list is now an easy path to tickets. Neglect has consequences, and apathy and ambivalence are two of the worst.

@hoosiers94 Yeah, I think the old ways of things are likely to change here soon and we just don't know how drastically, yet.  Before, 3-4 years seemed 'fairly' standard for rating coaches (outside of scandals). In the portal/nil era, I imagine thats 2-3, but we haven't really seen any P5 examples yet of a new coach getting jettisoned after 2 years strictly for performance.

The thing is, if I'm donor and SD asks me for part of 30 million to move on from DDV (the guy SD just hired) to let SD hire another coach, I'd probably hesitate and say I'd rater send my millions to Cig/Football.

We also don't know what SD really thinks here or how many ppl he truly contacted last time. If he did whiff on some higher names then he might be reluctant in moving on quickly and facing the same thing.  He also might think a GM and extra resources will be enough to improve things (Or at least definitely indicate if things CAN be improved longer term).

@hoosiers94 Are we the "usual suspects"? If so, can I be Keyser Soze?

Silly!  If the loss at Minnesota and NW last night were W's this thread would have 2 posts.  From the usual suspects.  All in for year 2.

Iowa forum has a lot of ppl thinking MidCollum will be fired within 3 years. As much as he's hyped on here, it seems like his own fans don't think he's all that shiny.

@surjay Midcullom. Clever. So what does that make DeVries? BM will make DD his whipping boy, just as he did this season.

Next season will tell us a lot when he doesn't have Stirtz.

I think he didn't fully appreciate the value of a stud rim protector/scorer. In the big ten, it's pretty much a necessity.

He might be I know many IU fans wanted him bad because he had won at a lower level. But the big power five is a whole different game. He is probably a pretty good coach if he can build a four year team but you really cannot do that anymore at this level and he will not get top level talent at Iowa. Wisconsin seems to win decent no matter what but they are the exception. You likely need Michigan talent to win big in the big ten most years now with the portal.
