@kkott that’s the point if I can shoot better than you you have no business on IUs squad.  You don’t wanna F with me in horse son.

@auburnhoosier I'm with you on Conor. He plays an important role for DeVries. If he was on last years team I'd have a bigger problem with a dozen other guys on that squad.

@cavanagh Conor would beat you in horse with his opposite hand.

And, I think you're reaffirming my point that you don't see value in a guy who doesn't score. Generally, he's out there with 4 guys who are all good and capable scorers. We have plenty of scorers. His talents aren't nearly as common on this roster as scoring ability is and that's probably why he's here.

@kkott no he wouldn’t.  I can shoot broham.  And he will get cooked by good guards.  He will try getting charges called, and they will be and ones instead.  I’ve seen this script before.  He’s better than atrocious but he should be 10 mins a game max.

@cavanagh offhand maybe not... Shooting hand, he'd beat any of us keyboard warriors, I'm sure.  And not only would he beat you, I would guess he's a better shit talker than you are too.  So you'd walk away feeling really bad about yourself.

@iunorth beat me shooting regular, sure.  better shit talker? I’ve been doing this for 40 years and was the short kid in HS.  You will not meet a better shit talker than me. My mouth is a lethal weapon, that is the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

@cavanagh He would. It probably wouldn't be like you think, but the dude plays, thinks and has practiced ball for most of his waking hours, and he's been playing college ball for 3+ years. They learn so many little tricks. He'd beat you with little bank shots, reverse layups, etc... I'm a way better HORSE player than I am a shooter and I rarely shoot from more than 15' out in horse. My son has been a better shooter than me for a long time, and has been able to beat me 1 on 1 since he was about 16, but I owned him in HORSE for many years after that. I think I'd still be competitive with him in horse if my body wasn't breaking down. Horse? Find what the other guy can't do well, and keep doing that.

Don't know which thread it was in, so maybe you answered it, but again, here's my question: if you take Conner out of the starting lineup, who are you putting in right now? He's out there with 4 good scorers, we don't need more offense.

@cavanagh I don't know... I suspect he's pretty lethal too.  It'd be entertaining to watch.

I beat Dane Fife in a game of horse while in college.  Tim Knight put on a camp at the college I played at.  On the last day of the camp, he (Tim) asked who the best shooter in the gym was.  More than a few of the little campers pointed at me.  Ha ha.  Dane didn't like that (light hearted), trash talking ensued...later on I beat him.  I'm sure a much bigger moment for me, than him... ha ha.  At the time, I honestly didn't think he'd even come close, other than I was nervous when it started... He was a MUCH better stand alone shooter, than I ever would have given him credit for.

Today?... I doubt I'd even get a letter on any of IU's guards.

They almost always are. Conner looks like a bad shooter because he's missing in a live game against college defenders. Relaxed, and just shooting? He's most likely very, very good.

@iunorth Impressive that you beat Fife in HORSE, but you played in college also right, and sounds like you were a shooter and in college at the time, so you were putting in the hours and getting up the shots to contend. I'm doubting Cav is.

@kkott We played open gym the same week, he cooked me in real game play.  Too big for me.  He was taller, and quite a lot more physical than I was.  But yeah, I was a high volume, low to mid 40's ish percent, 3pt shooter in college.  Scored just over 1500 points in college, handful of 40+ point games.  Very streaky in game play.  But like most decent college level guards, even at the low level I played, I was pretty much automatic just casually shooting around.  I played a 4 hour game of horse once with one of our backup guards (also automatic, but too small to be effective in game play).  I think I ended up going roughly 240 out of 250, most of them at or behind the 3 point line.  I did shoot some free throws every now and then to break things up.  The amount of reps and time, most college guards put in to the game... leads to a level of proficiency in many areas, that I think would shock most casual fans.  But then on the flip side of that, game environments change everything, for most players.

So while Conor has an interesting looking release on his shot, and is in the 30's percentage wise for his career from the 3... just casually shooting around, I would strongly guess he rarely misses... especially if he's focused in some sort of shooting competition.  I'd love for these guys to publish some of their scores from sessions they put in with the shooting guns.
