Michigan taking PU to the woodshed. Love it, but they will be looking to right the ship when we visit on Friday.

Purdue was coming off two losses when they played in Bloomington. Didn't work out so well for them.

I, for one, don't adhere to the "they're dangerous because they lost the last few games" perspective. I get it, but, imo, that's exactly when you want to play a team. It's similar to how I feel about the "it's tough to beat a team three times" nonsense. If a team won the first two meetings, they're likely better. Law of averages doesn't apply in such instances; it's not a coin flip or dice role.

I know Bigfoot and Gaptooth are too arrogant to feel shame for what they did to the program but they should. Dusty winning a national title will be the ultimate indictment of the athletics department and good ‘ol boys network that ruined the program.

Mick Cronin never ceases to entertain.  Kicked his own player out of the game after a flagrant foul and then had this exchange with the media afterwards:

Rough night for IU from a bubble perspective. I know, I know...IU just needs to win games and the tourney selection will take care of itself and you can't rely on the results elsewhere to get what you want. That written, Indiana's resume does not live in a vacuum and the results of other games absolutely could end up mattering (even if just for seeding). We'll start to keep track of those results over the next 2-3 weeks in this thread.

-Ohio State got a massive win over Wisconsin. That helps the Buckeyes and their case to make the NCAA Tournament and it keeps IU's win over Wisconsin from creeping into Q1 territory (at least, so far).

-SMU beat Louisville and that helps the Mustangs as they try to get off the bubble.

-Iowa knocked off Nebraska and halted their skid.

-Georgia beat Kentucky at Rupp Arena and the win gives the Bulldogs a key victory.

It wasn't all bad though...Minnesota drilled Oregon (IU is hoping they can rise into the top 75 and remove the only Q2/Q3/Q4 loss on IU's resume) and UCLA got thumped by Michigan State. The Bruins are in free-fall mode and are dropping from bubble consideration plus Mick Cronin clearly hates his team and is begging to get canned.

Teams on the bubble, in general, had a very poor showing last night. That is, potentially, very good for IU.

Clemson is now a bubble team after three straight losses including last night's defeat at Wake Forest. I really like Brad Brownell but their best win is SMU or Georgia and they have a pair of Q2 losses now.

West Virginia with a dreadful loss to at home to Utah.

Seton Hall with a loss at home to Depaul and they are now 50th in KenPom.

Auburn fell to Mississippi State and is now just 14-12 (hard schedule but at some point, don't you have to win enough games?).

Oklahoma State missed an opportunity for a signature win and lost to Kansas.

USC got drubbed by Illinois (101-65).

A couple of negatives (Texas A&M survived against Ole Miss, Saint Mary's did the same against Seattle) but it was a positive night in that the teams chasing IU either had damaging losses OR failed to add positive things to their resume.

Excellent post. I can't wait for the day when February doesn't involve "calorie counting." I like Woody about as much as I like a mousetrap clamping on my giblets, but at least he gave us one no-sweat NCAAT bid. (Correction: At least TJD and JHS gave us one no-sweat bid.)

I have high expectatins for any coach, but hell, given recent history, I'd settle for a no-stess bid every season. Imo, that's not a big ask ... at all. In no world should a good coach with good resources be sweating it out come March. I suppose sneaking into the tourney in Year 1 is something to cheer, but if IU finds itself on the bubble again next season I think we have our "Was this a good hire?" answer.

@gthomas Win 3 out of our last 5, and we don't need to sweat anything.  Win tomorrow night, and the talk can probably transition over to seeding discussions, rather than bubble discussions.  Obviously none of us want to be discussing bubble stuff, this time of year...consistently, or even ever again.  But outside the TJD/JHS year, we're in the best position this time of year that we've been in since 2016.  I know, I know, I know... accepting that is part of our problem, blah blah blah.  No one wants to stay here...  But it doesn't hurt to acknowledge that CDD has us in a position we haven't seen much in many years, with 3 weeks to go in the season.  Just gotta take care of business at home, and we'll make it, easily.  And if we can't beat MSU at home, we'll have an opportunity to seal it at OSU.  I happen to think beating NW and Minny will seal it, if we don't get blown out in the other games.

Anyway...we're in a good spot to make it, right now.  Which is better than not being in a good spot to make it, right now.

...which is what I've been saying all along. In any case, it hasn't been a good season, it hasn't been a bad season; it's just been a season. Same old, same old. I guess Top 10 NIL isn't enough for this program.

More like top 15/20. Rev share changed the landscape dramatically. This was literally the worst possible season to do a full rebuild.

We should have fired Bigfoot in year 3, hired May and let him use our top 5 NIL that year to get things going.

The base is going to have to come from high school recruiting. Those relationships are going to take time for DeVries to build. Who is our last coach who made an effort to lock down our state? Bobby Knight? Sounds like DeVries is smart enough to take that seriously. But we won't see the fruits right away.

Did you see that Lendeborg block from behind on K-R's dunk attempt with a minute or so left in the game? Or the fast break with him and Johnson?  I'm jealous.....

I posted this in another thread but it seems people missed it so I will put it here as well.

A lot of people on here think that we could have hired Dusty if we’d only fired Woodson a year earlier and went after May. I can tell you with certainty that would not have happened.

When Dusty was on Mike White’s staff at Florida, the Florida fan base was pretty crazy like the IUBB fan base. Because they were not winning like the fans wanted Mike and his family began to receive death threats. Mike had to remove his family from the Gainesville area. Dusty took note of that.

The IUBB fan base is at least as crazy as the Florida BB fan base and maybe worse. Dusty felt that if he had a tough year here there would be similar threats. Dusty could remove his immediate family but he he has too much extended family in the area that could not be easily removed. He was not willing to risk those people and therefore would not have considered the IU job even if offered.
