2027 top 50 guard Chase Branham has committed to Indiana. Branham is on his official visit in Bloomington right now and did not want to wait any longer to declare for the Hoosiers. This is a major recruiting victory for head coach Darian DeVries. Branham is a fantastic perimeter shooter and he plays for the same AAU program that IU assistant coach Nick Norton played for. There have been rumors that Branham could reclassify to the 2026 class but those rumors appear to be unsubstantiated (at least, for now). Hoosier Huddle will have full analysis of this commitment within the next day or so. For now, awesome addition for the basketball program...beat Illinois!

Great weekend!
This is fantastic news. IU beat out Purdue, Tennessee, Creighton, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas State and several others in signing Chase.
Awesome sAUce! Great weekend for the Fighting Bisons…

Love this pick up. Like his game
@dbmhoosier 1. This is so awesome. 2. It’s nice to get an elite shooter like Branham to buy in so much. Like really, really nice.
What a world we live in where IU basketball gets a commitment from a highly regarded recruit and I don't hear about it for two days, all while I bask in the aftermath of a 63-10 ass whipping of Illinois.

Does this commit officially take IU out of the running for Gardner?
They’re not even remotely close to the same players. They’d likely play really well together. Having said this, Gardner did just schedule a visit to Purdue. So maybe Branhams commitment contributed to that?
@gros-louis If IU stunk like they usually do in football then we would have more fan interest in a 27 kid.
While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. @dbmhoosier Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. That's a good question and I'll answer it in two different ways. From IU's perspective, absolutely not. They want multiple guards in the 2027 class and will continue to pursue another guard or two to pair with Branham (and Prince Alexander-Moody and whoever else is on the roster). From Jason Gardner Jr.'s perspective? I don't know but I cannot imagine that the commitment of an elite shooter disqualifies IU from his list. Now, I'm of the opinion that Gardner Jr. ends up elsewhere but that is just a gut feeling. Indiana is also going after guys like Jaxson Davis, J'Lyon Lyons and Davion Thompson so it's not Gardner Jr. or bust.
From a scheme standpoint, I think Branham would be best suited as a secondary ball handler. He's not a true playmaker that will beat his defender into the lane and continuously get to the basket but he's fantastic at moving off the ball and among the best in the country (regardless of HS class) at working off screens or dribble handoffs, getting his feet set and draining shots from the perimeter. If defenses leave him open, he's making them pay. He could be the primary point guard but I do think IU will try to land a guy that take primary ball handling responsibilities and a guy that is strong driver...that would really free up Branham to do what he could end up elite at.
I love Chase Branham as a player...the only bad part about this is that we have a while to wait before we can watch him!
