@cavanagh what do you think is actually causing it? From a pure basketball standpoint, "we're" getting what we've been asking for. Modern basketball. Winning basketball so far. It appears this team jives well with the students. So why is the interest so low? Years of apathy catching up? Football sucking all the oxygen out of the room? Bailey sucking? College bball just not as interesting? Combination of all of it?

25 years of an administration that didn't even try and made terrible hire after terrible hire. DeVries is an excellent coach but he's not a name. No one knows who he is. We have no superstar player that fans can cheer for.
It's a combination of those 3 factors.

and not to mention not a single player returned from last year. Which is what needed to happen but lost with that is the name recognition the built up equity in the team .. the familiarity with at least a handful of players. The attachment has to be reborn.
at current the only player I can feel that with is Sisley because we recruited him over the course of a few years, he's from Indiana and he stuck with the program. And next year we almost start all over again. Winning cures a lot. If we beat Louisville or Kentucky I think that will do a lot to gain more interest.
That and the football success has a lot of us with diverted attention... can't help but be all into football right now. 2 years ago we were all checked out of football in September and anxiously awaiting tipoff in November. Terrible problem to now have
@iunorth there is a lot of factors. The biggest being the rise of football and fans spending their hard earned money on a winner, I don’t think people have as much disposable income as they did a few years ago. Gambling and strip clubs are down a lot this year, those are big indicators on men having disposable income.
We have zero players back and everything is new is a BIG factor. The average fan has no idea who Bailey is and where he came from, they don’t know he sucks like me ;). NIL and paying players gets people butt hurt but not a huge deal. Then just we have sucked for a long time and the you aren’t fooling me again is really hitting fans. Woody and Archie did real damage to the brand we are not die hards like UK anymore. That also ties back into football being good, colts, pacers etc. Other things to spend time and money on. IU Bball is the 4th hottest thing in town.
Gonna take a lot to get it back to #1, and that ain’t happing with Cig. He’s changed the mentality completely. Hell I’m going to all the games now and didnt know 3 players on the team 4 years ago.
@cavanagh It’s the best we’ve had all year. Especially with students gone I thought it was fine. If we keep winning and once students get back we’ll be fine when we play conference games.
@cavanagh the UK fans around here are nervous about us. UK guards aren’t fitting. Plus some locker room drama going on involving girlfriends etc…That roster looks great on paper but has some issues.
@zeke4ahs this was three years ago the balconies were full. These holiday games should be packed. Bethune will be empty on Saturday I cant give away tickets. That NEVER has happened since creans first year.
@cavanagh Its an odd dynamic, for sure. Because in the past, really with any of our previous coaches since RMK, if we had a team start like we have, playing the style we play, fans would have been going ape shit over it. They went all in over Woody's first couple teams and that was an awful brand of basketball to watch and difficult to enjoy.
I think you're on to something with how important "names", and "brands", and familiarity and recognition are these days. I think Indiana, at some point, in the last 8 years, probably lost the connection between the brand (RMK, Candy Stripes, Mop Lady, William Tell), and what was being seen on the court, press conferences, etc... And when you're deciding to spend multiple hundreds of dollars, or more, to come to a game...when there are so many other available things these days for IU fans to spend their money on... its really easy to just sit in your living room, and show your fan support by posting on a random message forum.
I wonder what it will take for IU to pack Assembly Hall again, outside the obvious games like Purdue, Michigan State, Illinois, etc...??
I think if we beat Louisville, and win at Minnesota... that Penn State game might do it. Students will still be in town. We'll probably be ranked close to top 10 in the country. Big Ten home opener. Lose to Louisville, and its a really good and close game, crowd will still be pretty good, but not quite as electric.
With CDD, its gonna be a longer process. Outside someone like Brad Stevens, I'm not sure there was a "name" guy we could have gotten to get the fans to leap back on board.
i think I've been peacocked by too many streaming services that I have to pay for I feel I'm required to watch at home
Could it be that the old guard decided to boycott after the Woodson firing ? He was a RMK guy. I'm talking the 60 and older crowd. I mean I don't see why they would be all pissy about that but...

Winning cures all ills. Cignetti said that at his opening press conference. Win and they will come.
@hoosiers94 lot of people are dying too. Hell I’m 40 and I’ve never seen good basketball.

Oh please you've seen plenty. It's just that outside of the 2002 team none of them did squat when it mattered.

Who knows about QB but you can bet Bigfoot himself has told anybody who'd listen to stay away.
