I too love that we shot 33 3's... that means the system is a more modern one which we needed ... so strike that off the list. CDD lived up to that part. Hopefully the shooting was a one game blunder. But we were built to be a shooting team. A team of shooters and the first example is a shooting debacle. That's all I'm saying. Kind of ironic no?
Very very fair point. It's a bit nerve wracking certainly, but I wouldn't panic yet. Even Steph Curry has awful shooting games on rare occasions. Now, if we don't shoot well our entire time in Puerto Rico, then I'd start panicking.

@evanalvarez8 too each their own... but even if we do struggle shooting the ball the next 2 games as well, I wouldn't say "panic" is warranted. None of us have any clue exactly what the team and coaches are working on right now. It sounds like they're working on moving the ball around a lot, making extra passes, etc... for some of our guys, maybe that's going to take a little more time to get used to? Maybe CDD is in the "5" passes portion of his planned process for this team? Maybe that sentiment is so strong, and all of them are so bought in to it, right now, that none of them "want" to shoot the ball?
I suspect we'll shoot it better than we did on Wednesday, the last 2 games. But the team we're playing is markedly better, and definitely bigger, stronger, and longer than the first opponent. The last time we played them a few years ago, many said the overall Mega Superbet "program", would usually be a solid NCAA tournament caliber team. So if we struggle shooting, and lose one or both of the games, not the end of the world. Stay healthy, have fun, compete hard, learn some things to work on, or double down on, for the fall workouts and practices portion of CDD's process.
@iunorth Yeah, I'm shocked at the Nervous Nelly's after 1 game (although it's understandable after the last several years), with all the underlying circumstances. A couple other points: They're playing with a FIBA ball, and that I'm sure feels and looks different, and that can affect shooting. Plus, they played the entire roster, so a lot of folks taking 3s and FTs in this game, won't be in real games. It will be our best shooters and players and I think it's reasonable to assume that will raise averages too. I don't think Wilkerson is going to have many games going 3-13 on 3s, nor Tucker DeVries shooting 50% from the FT line. When it's our starters shooting the majority of both, we'll be fine. I really expect us to be top 3-4 in both categories in conference.
I'm not worried one bit. I won't lose a wink of sleep. Still doesn't change the performance. Again hopefully it's a one game blunder.
I'm not "worrying" about anything, all I was saying was shooting 50%from the free throw line is concerning. You seem to be the one taking every comment so seriously. Can't someone have an opinion?@hoosierific it's really not, but again, you want to worry over 1 game, and for the last time, that being an exhibition that we won by FIFTY, be my guest! If we shoot 50% on FTs in the next 2, then I'll raise an eyebrow. Glad our Coach has a more reasoned and realistic outlook than some on here. This team was recruited to prioritize shooting. It's one of the least of my concerns.
Should update this thread. Now after game two.
And listening to CDD post game he was extremely pleased that the pace of play and unselfishness that has been taught in practice was the way they played last night.
How about 32 assists on 41 shots made. That along with just 13 TO’s.
So this is just me talking out my azz... I wonder if the poor shooting in this first game might have been a result of too much unselfishness, passing up good looks to make the impressive pass, and then ending up late in the shot clock and having to take a less-than-optimal shot.
As far as last night's game, it sound like our offense exploded when the defense stepped up. Offense from defense is a real thing.
@openwheel I don't even think game 2 constitutes a really good shooting night for our team; maybe if you look at just the 2nd half. I'd say 34% on 3s and 78% on FTs is about right for this team, but think we'll have much better (and a few worse) nights in both categories.
The first part of this game I would guess highlighted what I think is the biggest concern for this team: size and post defense and rebounding. Great that they responded so well in this game and that we get at least some added post depth when the new Euro guy joins the roster, but I think that's more likely to be this teams Achilles Heel, not shooting.
