@arioznahoosier4554 some poster saying that and it being true are different things. OSU would have hired Archie if we didn't grab him first, so teams definitely wanted him. He was wildly considered a top up-and-comer by not just the media but by peers (using the same kind of coach voting that was used to try and discredit DDV).

This is all hogwash, to be honest. There's no direct evidence of peers thinking poorly of him. Its just people ranting for the sake of it.

Yeah, we have to have good NIL to succeed nowadays. That goes for everybody, not just DDV. If we hired pre-UCONN Hurley or pre-Florida Golden this year under the same circumstances I don't see how anybody can kid themselves in to thinking NIL would be flooding in. Same thing if we hired Kelsey this year or last.

Bigfoot Woodson used his connections to grift for 4 years and rob mega donors blind while accomplishing nothing. The pocketbooks are closed, unfortunately. its the biggest (among a million) reasons why Woodson needed to be fired after 3 years. Its a huge debacle and Buckner should have to answer for it instead of continuing to grift while sitting on the BOT.

Our NIL to me is average at best for DD. The class DD brought in is that not impressive at all, He got Wilkerson but the rest are just mid major average guys. I dont count gettting his kid because that was a no brainer. Then he went after all these highly ranked 2026 guys and got none of them. Many said it was because we got outbid so if that is the case our NIL really is not that great imo and will be a major problem for DD going forward. Schools like BYU will continue to have crazy amounts of NIL but most of ours is likely going to go to football.

Do we have any idea what Purdue's is?  I can't imagine it is as much as ours yet Painter is still able to put together top 10 teams.

He’s an excellent coach. Had Knight recruited him, he’d be on our bench and the last 25 years would’ve been much, much better.

@arioznahoosier4554 I think its still solid but this was just a really bad year to completely try to rebuild. We dropped from Top 5 to more like top 20 during a really weak portal year. Terrible time to try and add 13 players to a new regime.

DDV has also probably focused too hard on guys he thinks fits and personalities that fit. Woodson would take anybody with a high rating and pulse and we constantly had a team full of head cases.

The only cure is winning. There's no silver bullets and there aren't any elite coaches waiting in the wings. Buckner and Woodson have done as much damage to the program as any of the previous 30 years of blunders.

Yep but the problem is dd has to rebuild again this spring. Nobody that might be coming back is a starter. He will need a whole new starting lineup again.

This isn’t going to work out. Put serious money into basketball, hire a serious coach or give up on the program.

@arioznahoosier4554 Thats still better than needing 13 players. I'd also imagine there's a good chance that Sisley can start next year. We also do have recruits coming in. Yes, we need a large influx from the portal but its not a full roster.

@iugradman hire who? No big names are coming here or even available to begin with.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to hire a coach who can merely get IU selected to a 68 team tournament.

It shouldn’t be this damn hard. Are we sure Dusty would not be interested?

@iugradman You think Dolson ignored him last spring? Seriously? He wanted to fire Woodson year 3 to hire him but was blocked.

That bridge has been burned thanks to Woodson and Buckner.

Dorn is that level and now playing minutes. Sisley hopefully will be.

Not much else.

Dolson said they learned from Archie not to pick the guy who only continued the same level of success, didnt build it.

But what about if the coach who follows your guy loses significantly less in year one than your guy lost each year for five years? Isnt that a program upgrade with a change of coach? Sort of a similar thing?

Just frustrated. Seems like the hardest working  coach in basketball couldve added some help mid season like some other schools.

that's the problem its only two guys. Everyone else will be brand new again and that's assuming they both stay.

For all the doom and gloom on here the past couple of weeks it really boils down to that. That's all that's ever mattered. When Cig was hired there were plenty of doubters. I was one of them. He erased all of that by winning games.

Surjay keeps saying hire who. That's Dolson job for shits sake. He screwed it up.  Reset

DD isn't going to get it done. So just because we on this forum can't give you a name that you like we should just keep DD around cause no one will come.  No one's come for decades. What's the flipping difference. If we gamble again we are no worse off. We are pathetic. End of story

DD is much more likely to get it done than he is to be fired before two full years.
