@drjb I think Pat Kraft has some loyalty to IU, too. I think he'll look elsewhere for his coach.
One more thing that I think might play into this is that Penn State’s AD, Kraft played football at Indiana. Is Kraft going to deliberately ruin what IU has going with Cig? Hopefully he decides to leave IU football alone and goes after the next big thing.
Here's an interview with Scott. He's really been the architect of all this: targeting Cig, hiring him, coaching staff raises, NIL, etc. I've got confidence he knows what to do.
There's no honor among thieves. ;DOne more thing that I think might play into this is that Penn State’s AD, Kraft played football at Indiana. Is Kraft going to deliberately ruin what IU has going with Cig? Hopefully he decides to leave IU football alone and goes after the next big thing.
@walt542 Non-factor. He's the PSU AD, he's going to do whatever he thinks will improve their team, and any IU ties will only be a factor if he thinks it helps him accomplish that.
To answer the original question...yes, Penn State will go after Cignetti hard...if he gives them the opportunity to do so. Timing isn't on their side. I'm sure they would strongly prefer to hire someone as soon as possible. If IU makes the CFP, and Penn State hasn't hired anyone through the CFP, I'll be more worried about it.
If we make the CFP and Penn State hasn't hired anybody yet... I'll assume he's gone. Unless Nebraska is also in...
For now I assume he's staying.
Cig is 64. He has the world by the tail, the gap in effective resources between IU and PSU is small if at all, Btown is a far far better place for your family to live than State college, and expectations are reasonable here. I think it would be dumb to leave but he won't ask my opinion.
