Against Nebraska? I know many of their fans expected us to shove it down their throats. What were they doing to be so successful in stopping our running game? Makes me a little concerned for this weekend.
It felt to me like we only tried once outside run, which we did with success with Beebe in the 2nd half. Outside of that, everything was between the tackles and just stuffed. Someone could chart the plays and tell me I am wrong, but that's what I felt while watching. But why couldn't we run it between the tackles? I don't know, but assume part was their scheme/emphasis on it and part us not blocking it well. I don't mean to sound like Mr. Obvious and I'm not being a smartass.Against Nebraska? It was the first time, all year, we couldn't run it effectively pretty much all game. They were definitely loading the box with extra guys, but I think more than that, their DLine was just winning and getting in to gaps, more than other teams have been able to. We've struggled, at times, especially in short yardage situations, to move the LOS and get positive yardage. But within all those games, we've figured out ways to open gaps and seems, and we've gotten going running the ball. Might also be the crowd? Maybe the line and Hoover communicating with one another, at the LOS, is more crucial than we would know? Maybe we're still not all that good at silent count execution?
We need to be able to run the ball against OSU, in my opinion. So hopefully it had more to do with their crowd, than anything else?!
We were running against a loaded box all day. They sold out to stop the run. Our O-line struggled to pick up the extra dudes, and for some reason it took us until the 4th quarter to consistently take advantage of it with our passing game.
I think Cig even commented that it was the type of game you learn a lot from.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

Several reasons...1) They loaded the box. 2) A couple of bad RPO reads where Josh needs to pull it and throw.
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
There were no holes. 😉
We ran the ball, Marsh ran 75 yards and 45 yards.
Joel Klatt explained it perfectly on the broadcast. Nebraska put one more person in the box i.e. near the line of scrimmage than IU had blockers. That’s what they mean by loading the box. They can do that and still cover our receivers one on one because the QB handling the ball essentially means they don’t have to cover him. Of course that makes it much harder to cover our WRs as we saw later in the game. It is also why a good running QB like the 2 we have seen is more difficult because you generally have to dedicate another defensive guy to cover him or “spy” on him as they say making it more difficult to load the box or double cover a WR.
Personally, I also questioned if Turbo was fully healthy. Was injured vs NW, on the injury list for Rutgers and still ran for 200 yards, made me think he might've reaggravated something. But, I just didn't see him have his normal burst, shake that he normally has.
It was a numbers game and we were on the short end of it. It was our six or seven versus their eight or nine on a consistent basis, and you’re never going to be able to “out block” that kind of a disparity. UNL brought their safeties down with the idea that they’d stop the run and create second and long / third and long scenarios (we were 1 of 10 on third down), and it worked for much of the game. They doubled us up on number of plays (83 versus 44) and time of possession (40 minutes versus 20) and, amazingly, still lost. That’s pretty hard to do, but we still won, largely because we were able to make them pay a few times for selling out to stop the run. We also changed up our D and got off the field more, but they have a really good mobile QB who will be a headache for many teams.Against Nebraska? Yup too many attackers for the rushing attempts on 1st and 2nd down + only 16(?) total possessions in the 1st half. The boys from Lincoln made IU play their game. Proves this years IUFB team is just as full of resolve as last year. Sayin can't perform with his feet like that QB last week but OSU'S intangible is the #4. I suspect we'll try to jam him at the LOS(like Maryland)a bunch and deal with the WR's in progression.

Maryland had great success running outside Nebraska in the 1st half of that game. Outflanking their D. They have some burners at TB.

Coming into the game, they were a highly ranked D, especially v. the run. As I recall they were giving up 2.1 yds/carry (v. our 2.2).
