I thought it was their 2 Co-DCs that were making Michigan's life difficult. Outside of the first drive and the Hail Mary that shouldn't have been, meatchicken's offense looked awful.

How bad was Bryce Underwood this week? This bad--
--12-22 for 170 yards for the game, including the Hail Mary throw. 124 yds if you take out the Hail Mary.
--10-16 for 95 yds prior to the last drive
--PFF's lowest graded Michigan offensive player for the game. His worst-graded game ever at Michigan;
--1 passing TD; 1 rush TD; 1 Int, with 3 other close calls; 1 crucial fumble
--10 carries for 47 yds
After the game, Whittington (sp?) would not commit to him as the starting QB after this week, saying "He's our starting QB right now". Yikers.
So what do you do if you are KW? Would Underwood even be starting if they weren't paying him $5M?
The game is at home. Frankly, it looks like a lose-lose proposition. You can justify Underwood starting because the back-up has never started a college game.
If they get mangled by Oklahoma and he plays poorly, I would think you have to bench him. If that happens, what's left of your credibility after starting him in the first place?
I think you try to run him about 20 times, throw all short passes and screens, and try to win 14-10.
Tommy Carr, grandson of Lloyd Carr, is the back-up QB. He was high 3*, low 4* coming out of HS. He's 6'4" tall, mobile, and out-performed Underwood in the spring game, with 21-30 for 147 yds and 59 rush yards. Underwood was famously bad in the spring game, per Eric Weddle's statements.
They’ve got some kid from Colorado State who’s probably better than both of them… I hope they aren’t smart enough to play him…

I always liked Whittingham as a coach when he was at Utah… Have to wonder a little about him now after watching him on the sidelines in this last one… He looked almost lost and somewhat confused to me, like he was doing a Joe Biden impression…
I’m thinking maybe Utah was onto something when they “retired” him…, beyond just wanting to keep his backup replacement… He may have actually lost a step… I could be wrong but it sure looked like it…
I was actually very disappointed that the high flying Western Michigan Walt Bell offense was only able to put up 12 points on Michigan.
Western made the Michigan offense look like fools. But then their own offense did so little.
Did they lose everybody except Broc? They put up a ton of yards and points against MAC level last year. And as we have seen from Old Dominion and UNTexas, the lower levels can still play a little football.
So, I blame Walt Bell for the loss. 😎

Bell is still enamored with his jet sweep, which probably works pretty well in the MAC but it wasn’t too bright to waste snaps running it regularly against Michigan with their overall team speed on defense.
His inside run game was semi-working because he was going right at them (best way to negate speed) and he had a 225 lb RB carrying the ball (unlike the 160 lb back he tried running inside when he was here).
The key to their Offense is their QB’s toughness and willingness to run inside when asked… They’ll do well in the MAC again this year if they stay healthy.
Glad to see Bell doing well, he seemed like a nice fellow even if I didn’t agree with his play calls on occasion…

uhh…, have him run any play that doesn’t attempt to go right over the guard and expect him to break two tackles *Before* he’’s able to use his speed?🙈😎

Jaylin didn't even look to have much wheels, with us. I think it was he didn't have that quick change accelration, and we were never ever to design plays to give him a head start with an opening. His top end speed was fine. But when accelerating, ankle tackles always took him down before he got going.
James Franklin is a coach who once said having tall rangy lineman with a small quick back works. Said we'd lose sight of the little runner when he heads into the line but a couple wiggles later see him shoot into the open space. 🤣 Said that when one of his decent RB recruits was about 5' 7 if being optimistic.
