@hoosiers94 if it goes to 16 team playoff you will likely see play in games played on championship weekend which will level the playing field for playoffs teams. Especially if they do the 4-4-3-3-1-1 which is 4 SEC auto bids, 4 B1G, 3 ACC, 3 Big 12, 1 - G5 champ, 1 - highest ranked at large to keep a door open for ND. This way the P4 conferences can choose who they are sending in their auto bids and all the committee has to do is choose the G5 and at large rep and seed them from 1-16.

so both of those teams or one of them was ranked higher than Duke of course.
That rule is flawed. There should not be 2 of those teams. Waters down the playoff.

Im not sure I would pick Duke over JMU or over Tulane H2H. Duke already lost to 2 G5 teams this year, its just a crappy conference. When they made the playoff rules they werent expecting a "power" conference to have a 8-5 champion with Duke's resume

There is nothing wrong with Conference Championship games.

There is something wrong with how the CFP views Conference Championship games.

This! Conference championships are fine but they have to mean something.  Alabama was dominated by Georgia and didn't drop one ranking, that is the problem, not the game itself.

They do mean something, they just only mean something to the other teams playing in conf championship games. Ottherwise it will be a punishment to make the conference championship and lose.  That absolutely positively can't happen or conferences will cancel them. You can't make finishing in 3rd place of a conference, more valuable than 2nd.

No one has answered the injury possibility problem.

The national title is all that matters.

Nothing personal, but I hate that sentiment. If winning the conference doesn't matter, then do away with conferences.

I'm old school, really old. I hate the football championship game, and hate the basketball conference tournament. Win the conference on the field or on the court over the course of the season. If money is the issue, schedule an extra football game for everybody and three extra basketball games. The winner has the best conference record, with any tiebreakers necessary.

I don't know if this would have cost IU a conference championship this year or not. I don't really care.

So dont play football games? Sit out the championship game?

QB could be hurt in any game But you play to win the league, so whining about your team getting THE chance to do it. Is silly.

I cared a lot about the conference championship. Much more than a mini playoff that was weeks away.

Now, I care about the CFP. But it would be better if we were just facing off for the title against Georgia. Or meeting Oregon in a semi then on to the final.

Why the extra tourney games where somebody could get hurt?

@thehoosierhuddle love this. The SEC keeps bragging about their numbers. It’s a shame Game Day didn’t figure out that 1 and 2 might have been the better game.

@hoosierific And then BYU lost and didn’t make tourney. So they can’t really decide if they mean anything or not.

@zeke4ahs BYU was already out of the tourney before the game, it was just an opportunity for them to make the playoffs if they did win

yeah that's what I said.  This game is worthless ... Daley is now hurt.  We were in the playoff so was OSU

all could have been determined without that game.  Waste of time.  Attrition.  Wonder if Tech suffered any injuries

I said the opposite of that, so not what you said.

I stated I do care - a lot - about the conference title, and hence the title game.

Since the game, I have moved on to the CFP. But first things first, the Hoosiers took care of business in the big game.

If the concern is injury, than the CFP should be a couple rounds less. 2 to 4 teams who earned it.

We can agree to disagree.
