- 1. What if a team that plays in one loses their best player. I.e. Mendoza. There are teams like Oregon who didn't have to play on one and yet are in.
- 2. ACC game made no difference and mattered none to the season.
they have become a less valuable commodity
The AcC game 100% mattered. If UVA wins they were in.
it’s an unnecessary game, but they’re not going anywhere
So many teams get skipped as opponents with our mega conferences, that they are sort of necessary. It is a reasonable way to determine a champion. I like them.
Everything doesnt need to be about ESPNs playoff.
They wont get rid of the game. Numbers just came out and our CCG was the most viewed game of the season. Nearly 20 million viewers !!!

These games aren’t going anywhere.
There is nothing wrong with Conference Championship games.
There is something wrong with how the CFP views Conference Championship games.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"
What if Mendoza had been injured and out for the season because of that game while Oregon sits at home and benefits from our loss. No one has addressed this point. I get the ratings and the money but it doesn't mean it makes sense ... I for one could care less about winning the conference championship game. The national title is all that matters.
and we can assume that , however with the way they voted who knows if they would have given it to Virginia. It's not an auto entry. No guarantee they rank them in the top 12 ... am I missing something g?
What's to stop a team to lose their last game by sitting out all of their starters, to get out of the game. Knowing still that with one loss they are still in the playoff. Especially if it goes to 16 teams
@hoosiers94 Virginia would have been the 5th highest rated conference champ, they get in automatically.
do. they not have to be ranked at a certain number ?? What I read was that it would have been likely but wasn't a guarantee as the committee would have had to rank them high enough to get in. ???
@hoosiers94 The 5 auto bids are for the 5 highest ranked conference champs
Thats why Tulane and JMU are in the playoffs even though they are not ranked top 12. Virginia would have been the 11 seed if they had beaten Duke
This is also how Clemson backdoored their way into the playoffs last year, and it determined Arizona State vs Iowa State... Its also why I dont think the ACC is really a power conference anymore. A conference cant be that good if their champion back to back years isnt even a top 15 team

This
so both of those teams or one of them was ranked higher than Duke of course.
That rule is flawed. There should not be 2 of those teams. Waters down the playoff.
