Is anyone watching the ucf game? I don’t have espn plus, but just looking at the box score it appears Tayven has outplayed the starter Fancher. That or Fancher got hurt? Anyone get a good look at him play? Looks like it’s a tight game.
I'm watching Sorsby, the OTHER ex-IU QB
Crap, wanted to watch it, but forgot. UCF pulled out a close win over Jacksonville State 17-10.
Injury to Fancher. He got clobbered about halfway thru the second quarter, and writeups say he was in street clothes in the second half. Tayven's offense didn't do much until second half but finally came alive - going by writeups. A couple sweet throws! That guy has an arm.
Frost says QB will be evaluated once they know Fancher's health.
Frost had said last week it was a tight battle and all three of his guys were in the mix. That Tayven made 'spectacular' plays in camp but Fancher led the huddle well enough to win the job.
Gotta be Tayven's now I'm betting. 17-24, 286 yards, 2 TDs. In 2/3 of a game. Fancher 5-9, 35 yards.
Caught the last drive. Tayven took a big shot to the head as well. Came back and made a great throw to win it. He had some bad throws as well so his consistency still needs to improve but have a feeling he’ll get the starting job eventually if he hasn’t won it after this game. Could be one where it’s a game to game evaluation.
I honestly think Tayven, if stays healthy, will latch on in the NFL. I look at guys who can't hit the broadside of a barn hanging on for three or four years as their teams try to train them because they have big arms.
Tayven has a big arm but also can hit that side of the barn. He may have to go practice squad but if I got any sort of odds I'd bet he makes it as a backup (at least) eventually.
He, like those same guys who hang around but can't pass, does seem to have trouble with progressions or reads coming naturally. Leads to some bad throws.
But when he has time to stand in there, and sees the open guy, the deeper the better, usually on the money. And the NFL loves projects like that.
