@mrhighlife Don't know what the details are for a redshirt with 5 for 5 (seems like I heard it would be more restrictive but not eliminated) but it does sort of go against the spirit of 5 for 5. Sadly, guessing we've seen the last of Daley in and IU uni, but if not, I think it would be this year.
@kkott There are no more "redshirts" from what I understand it to be. Before 5 for 5 it was going to be that they can play up to 9 games. I haven't heard anything about Daley making a return to IU, but it's still early. I guess we will find out when practice starts Wednesday.

Five sequential years to play four should be the rule we get back to. I don't care if a few players getting an extra year would be good for IU this year, it's bad for college football.

The 2 K-State kids, Daniel Ndukwe, JB, to go along with both Dailey and Wyatt. There aren't enough snaps to go around to make everyone happy.
That also doesn't include Landino, who slides out on occasion.
Staes is the obvious no-brainer. If he can come, is affordable and we want him, you sign him up yesterday.
Seems like a dicey situation...my thinking is this.....On a 10 scale imo Dailey was a 10, Wyatt about an 8.8 & Staes about a 6.
We already have Obiazsor, Branham & Burris at the DE position, and Osunsanmi & Nidukwe at the Stud position. Burris may be somewhat disfavored due to his recent legal run-in but he looked like a tremendous prospect in the spring practice/game.
Dailey played at an elite AA level as a starter, Wyatt was near-elite after (I thought) a slow start his first couple of games. If either or both want to come back, it's hard to pass on either, but there are other considerations--will they be as good physically as they were before their injuries? Do they want to play somewhere where are no limits on their PT? And what effect will it have on the morale/attitude this year & next of the other DEs? On the face of it, this looks like a tough call for Cig.
As far as Staes goes, I'm not sure I get the love for him. He didn't seem to the be on the same level as a blocker as Nyakowski (sp?), and certainly wasn't in the same class as a pass receiver/runner after the catch. I get wanting a veteran TE, I just don't see him as a difference maker.

Staes doesn't have to be a difference maker though. He's played in big time games last year, would come on as an extra blocker (was in the national championship game when Nowakowski had his rushing TD) and like you said, is a vet.
He's played more college ball, at the P4 level at that, then our whole room combined. If he wants to come back, and I'm the staff (thank God I'm not), we bring him back in this situation 10 out of 10 times.
@boogie I'll go back to my consistent belief about this staff: if they thought we had any need for a veteran tight end, we'd have one. Seems like one of the more affordable positions and also a variety of guys/positions who can fit (ie a former walkon from WI!). Up to the staff, but I doubt Staes brings anything that we don't already have, imo.

He brings experience that no one else on the roster at the position has.
That goes a long way with this staff.
Staes was pretty good. Beat out by Nowakowski but he was still good.
Only one ball, so it seems like it would be crowded if he returns. If he's willing to be mainly a backup, while knowing the offense, he would be good competition and depth. So I won't be surprised. Even though run blocking isn't his forte, he's not some mauler, he's still a lineman and can't have too many of those.
@boogie If the staff brings him back, that's fine, but if not, as I said, I feel like if they felt experience would add anything to this room/position, then we'd have an experienced guy here already. We have enough bodies, it's just they are all very young. I've heard him mention Gibbs more than once and thought it was interesting that he took him to the Huber's event. Fine either way, but I just think if they thought a guy like Staes added anything, then we'd have an experienced guy on the roster already.

I have to believe that across all College Sports, that Coaches, ADs, People that Fundraise for NIL, and the Donors that grease the wheels, generally secretly despise this Colorado judges ruling.

Most speculation - and seems like that's all it is until they at least get a couple preseason games in - thinks Aiden will end up on the practice squad. They just added a veteran linebacker too.
He would have made more money at Indiana. But may not be possible now.
Who can tell on any of it, will the judges 'sign pro contract' or not caveat hold up, will ANYTHING on any of the decisions hold up?
