@tammany The problem is the home opener is always Labor Day. That’s A big lake weekend, self included.
People like what they like, I can’t change that, but I wish our fans would wake up and get more behind a good thing worthy of support. Especially the sport that is way bigger than bball.
Rightly or wrongly, people are still taking a wait and see attitude with IUFB. We got teased with a couple decent seasons with Allen, and then hit the skids once again. As much as I think CCC is going to turn this thing around, I don't blame people for being leery. Cig has had one season, and it was un-freaking-believable. Fan support has swelled accordingly. Not selling out the cupcakes in July is nothing to be concerned about. And selling 90+% of the B1G games by July has got to be some kind of record.
@zeke4ahs The total # of people on lakes is pretty small, not sure that's the primary driver. And other schools do well with their home openers despite the lakes calling their names.
At the end of the day, IU won't reverse decades of not caring about FB in one year. It will take time, and fortunately the turnaround has started. Of course I'd love it to happen faster, but it is what it is.

I blame people a little bit for being leery after the non-stop blind support for basketball where apparently nothing can stop our fans from showing up. But as I said, people like what they like and I can't change that.
Barring an a team meltdown, the B1G games will sell out. I'm not worried about those. Cupcakes #2 and #3 are okay to not sell out. The home opener looks a little disappointing at this stage coming off a playoff birth and going into a high expectation season. Is what it is though, and while it's not great it's not the end of the world.
Season tix for the 35th year. Like the previous 34, will be at each home game.
IMHO, it will take some time before we have a virtual sell out before the season. It takes a big commitment of time & dollars that some aren’t willing to make. My attitude is: Get people to a game or 2 & they’ll realize how much fun it is. And they’ll come back.
@rattmouse congrats on the 35 years. This is our 50th year .....we have seen virtually seen the best years of IU football and you're correct it has been so much fun.

Cig tweeting for fans to come to games feels like a step backwards.
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
Second year I’ve put together a group of friends and bought a suite in the SEZ. It’s expensive, but after last year, we are all completely spoiled. It’s an incredible way to enjoy the greatest turnaround in college football history. Missed the opener last year because of a previous commitment, but scheduled smarter this year. Won’t miss a minute and can’t wait!

We have to face it that we still don't have a great fan base. In their defense, it's a non-exciting matchup and it's probably going to be uncomfortably hot if it's anything like our recent openers. So, not an ideal viewing experience.
I also think it's going to look pretty full at kickoff and that's good. But I imagine the place will empty out at half if it gets out of control like I hope it does. That's one of the things that pisses Cig off I think. But even the top tier programs have that problem, so not much to say there.
I think Indiana State will have a good showing, if nothing else I can imagine a bunch of ISU students coming down to tailgate, go to the game, go party afterwards. Even for a Friday night, it should be alright.
The Illinois game really will set the tone for the season. It's going to sell out. As long as the boys don't lay an egg, I think it'll determine whether we sell out the rest of the season.
On a personal note, I'm really psyched for ISU because it's a night game and Little Miss TMFT is coming and I look forward to seeing if she's able to shotgun a Mountain Dew any better than her brother.
A small but cool moment on gamedays is walking in from town. Campus and town is very, very quiet. Then heading up Woodlawn it’s quite calm until you crest the hill at the train tracks and then the whole gameday atmosphere hits you like a wave.
@tammany That’s spot on. We’re RVers & one of my game day “traditions” is a Saturday morning run through campus. As I leave the stadium, it’s only the game day staff & people lining up to get in the grass lots. Down Indiana & across 3rd street it’s me & my thoughts. Coming back a little more traffic, the lots are open with people setting up their tailgates, & you start to feel the energy! It’s like watching a small city slowly come to life & grow.
@tmft I know it’s hot everywhere, just like it’s Labor Day everywhere, but some of the early games are so miserably hot. I’ve seen several people taken away by ambulance due to heat stroke. I’m glad the second game is a night one.
I think it’s a bit alarmist to start hand-wringing over preseason ticket sales in July, when, on a macro-level, they are quite literally the best they’ve ever been in recent memory. Perspective is important…
@rattmouse you need that RV pass(gate 9 or 11), holler. or Grass,2,4,11,6,10 lots.
Oh and if anyone needs tickets, I can do cheaper deals than stubhub I have:
5 Sec 7, Row 9
3 Sec 6, Row 8
4 Sec 26, Row 6
2 Sec 26 ,row 7
