I don't really have much of a problem with this. These services can't get everywhere to see everyone. This could lead to some really rural, under evaluated players to have some doors opened for them.
@gros-louis It depends on how it is done. If they actually hire more scouts to go through all of this stuff, great. However, I don't think that will be the case and it is just a slippery slope. What happens when a bad evaluation comes back? Is there a way to make sure that stars and ratings aren't bought. In theory, yes, it could be great. However, I don't think it's going to be that.

It's fair to be skeptical, especially in that industry. I can't imagine not increasing their scout staffing, but whether they're good/qualified will be interesting. I would think they'd not want to tarnish their reputation as evaluators (if they have a good one now) to just pass out stars based on payment, but I guess that's for the coaches to decide whether they are good or shit.

There is no longer a barrier for the all-county RB from BF Nebraska. I'm seeing this go on with my nephew in hoops. There's a bunch of ways to get noticed and evaluated. If a kid is doing the things that they need to do in the off season, they're being found and evaluated already.

These recruiting services are hacks and 98% fan service imo.
What could go wrong with the parents of a zero star buying their son 3 stars to up their freshman NIL bag and the recruiting service further milking the system?
Would love to know the percentage of programs that never consider anything Rivals or any other service puts forth with their opinion.
Their grading accuracy on mid to low level recruits has to be utter shit overall.
All the serious even half way big time college football programs have their own evaluation & recruiting operations these days and all these “under the radar” kids need to do is send some IPhone shot film clips (along with their 20 & 40 times, height & weight, plus arm length) to the respective teams recruiting contacts to get their info out there… The team that won’t look at that is the team you don’t want to be on anyway…
I say save your $500 and pool it with similar recruits to invest in an electronic timer and video equipment…; or better yet organize your own Combine and invite every school in the country…

I think the most important part is making sure to do your own evaluation even if using sites like rivals as a guide on who might be worth a look. I think charging players for ratings though could make the ratings even more worthless.
