Some sad news to pass along. Local radio personality Joe Smith passed away (I believe today).
Joe was a staple calling HS games and doing the pre and postgame shows for IU football and basketball.
He helped me early in my career as the radio statistician and always was happy to see me after retirement.
RIP Joe.

@thehoosierhuddle Sorry to hear. It's hard when you start losing the folks in your circles, be they professional or personal. I've had several colleagues pass away over the last several years, and it always gives you pause. Take nothing for granted and try and be that resource to someone coming up. My condolences.
Knew Joe a bit from various interactions through the years and he was top notch. Great guy, very knowledgeable about sports, and loved IU. He always made time for me and would chat for as long as you needed. RIP.

Didn't he have a fall with a TBI... or maybe it was a stroke... a few years back? I know he was out of commission for quite a while, and it seemed like he never was quite right after that.
