We've seen a few completed flat routes, RB leak outs, and screens, but really haven't exploited a team with them. Which I'll surmise is mostly due to so many successful avenues for this IU offense to go.
Which leads me to being surprised we haven't seen more explosive completed wheel routes with Hemby. . Hemby against a LB in the open field should be a hot knife through butter with huge big play potential.
Also believe Nowakowski is a candidate to exploit a LB or safety matchup on a wheel route as well.
Let's say the coaching staff and players want to see Hemby have a day at Maryland, would love to see him take a 60 yard wheel route to the house.
Seems like we actually do this a fair bit? Hemby and Nowakowski both had some decent plays from the wheels/screens to the outside, in many of our recent games. We're so good in traditional runs, and then more normal progression reads to our 3 wide receivers, that there's no reason to make those RB wide plays a bigger focus, right now. I suspect when we face someone that's getting consistent pressure on Mendoza, and has a very good back 4-5... we'll see more screens and wheel routes. Up until now, not overly necessary, but we're still doing it.
I’m going to guess we haven’t seen the whole playbook yet. I bet when we go against the big boys that the boys have new stuff dialed up. No need to show all the cards.
@iunorth that Rpo x screen we do in the red zone is almost unstoppable. Z blocks and the x guy only has to beat one guy.
