The Jets would absolutely be the worst case scenario.  A total factory of sadness, top to bottom.

The Raiders have a terrible owner and it remains to be seen if they will get a capable GM, but they do have a supportive fan base, deep pockets, a warm and fun home city, a great new stadium, and a (now-distant) commitment to excellence, even if only historical.  And the Raiders uniforms have always been snazzy (though I am in no way a Raiders fan).

I like the Jets, because I like Aaron Glenn. I think the Jets finally did something right.

Depends on who the Raiders get though. I didn't like them partly because it felt like Pete Carol was getting past it. And dont know if GM Spytek is any good, and he's new so will be there awhile. Could be bad to go there.

the thing Elway had in terms of leverage was that he was offered a baseball contract to pitch. So he told the nfl (through his agent) that if certain teams draft him, he’s gonna go to baseball(colts were one of them, that’s why I remember this so well) so for the good of the league, those teams were told not to draft him, basically

Didn’t Eli Manning do something similar to this? Seems like he refused to play for the team that drafted him and demanded that they trade him which is how he ended up with the Giants.

Elway fun fact... If he doesn't go to Stanford, Babe Laufenberg never comes to Bloomington.

@iugradman Zero chance (imo) Cignetti goes to the NFL at this point. I don't think ever, but things change, so I'd never say never, but I think Cig recognizes his skills fit college football. That's who he is and what he loves. He's gone from making $675K in his last year at JMU to 12 mill (and another raise coming at the end of this season!), and his respect for SD and PW... just can't see him leaving at this point.

It depends on what Curt wants. If it’s always been his dream to coach in the NFL, he will never have a better chance.

Personally, I think there’s a better chance of this happening than most think.

Then again, I’m a pessimist by nature.

I don't think there is any chance Cig goes to the NFL. He has dreamed of being in this position his whole life and is now living his dream and getting $12 mil a year to do it. He is not going to ruin that by going somewhere he may not even fit in.

If he believes in Mendoza and the Raiders commit to drafting him, I think there’s at least a possibility that he could leave. It would line up perfectly.

It all depends on what CC wants. If it’s always been his dream to coach in the NFL, there will never be a better time to do it than now.

To be clear, I really really hope I’m wrong and he retires at IU.

I just don’t think it’s as clear cut as many would think at first glance.

Chargers drafted Eli.  They traded him to the Giants for Philip Rivers.  Turned out to be a win-win.

NFL coaching is a bunch of retreads for the most part.  If you're not a retread, you're a young guy who was on staff with one of the successful retreads.  Even if some rando team came calling, why would Cig want to deal with all the drama that comes with an NFL job in his 60s with no experience?  I'm sure he's had that conversation with Saban or at least heard the stories at some point

Well, I think there is ZERO chance.

Yet it really must be non-zero, so yeah, a better chance than I think.
