I started my kids in the Varsity Club at the minimum level of $100 the day they were born. They get 10 points ($1000 equivalent) for every consecutive year. They are now in the mid 30’s and are relatively high in the VC priority points. Just an insight.
Dang I had no idea - very smart
Wise.
Not sure I understand your post or point. First, you get 10 Varsity Club points for each consecutive year of giving at the minimum level which is $100.00. Second I’m not understanding why you choose to put the ($500) after 5 points. You cannot cash out points, perhaps you mean that $500 of lifetime giving gives you 5 points in any given year?
Thank you Walt542. You are correct and I edited my message.
I’ll tell you another story, this one a bit darker. Both of my parents were consecutive donators to the VC for 50+ years. I was able to use their account to get premium seats to both football and basketball for years. While my dad had passed in 2007, my mom was still alive until spring of 2024. Those choice seats were still coming in strong until March of 2025 when the ticket office must have finally received the death certificate for my mom. I still held her account and had full access up until that time. The ticket office sent me a condolences letter and did a very kind transfer to my own account of 10 years worth of my mom’s VC credits. I had lost access to 50 years of VC points. Since I had been a cheap ass for most of my adult life and sporadically donated to the VC, I had no consecutive years of credit built up.
Ticket selection this year was rough, to say the least. I lost about 20 rows of Grade A choice seating for football. Basketball selection found me going from the glitz and glamour of lower bowl, section J across from the bench to the upper dark recesses of section H known as Simon Skodt Skid Row.
#1 - The ticket office always knows when you are gone. You can’t scheme their system.
#2 - this is not like an inheritance, tickets are non-transferable.
#3 - It’s a wise move to start donating early in your IU alumni life to the VC and do it consecutively
@big-red-cb-v-2-0 You've got to wonder how they found out so quickly. Do they have access to Social Security info?
There's got to be some way for them to match up your identity to a death record.
Hmmmm......
I'm surprised they gave you 10 years. That's actually pretty generous. I know my daughter is going to get a rude awakening when I pass - she hasn't even joined the VC and she's a 2015 grad.
DANC
They have to have some kind of detailed personal info, not sure about SS# but they find out. Know other fans and had the same thing happen. The ticket office has military-like stealth intelligence.
