What an awful job by that crew. Miami's entire schtick is being a dirty, undisciplined team and the refs basically gave them free reign to hold, grab, whatever.

If the refs had actually been making PI calls, IU probably wins that game going away.

I was too high up in the endzone to tell for sure, but it looked like they were getting away with all kinds of crap. Looked like we got hammered on the sidelines several times, those long runs and 5-minute protections on pass plays surely had some holds that were missed, and it was absolutely garbage they NEVER showed replays of what I thought were controversial calls (or non-calls) on their video boards. Can't wait to watch it tonight on the big screen to see what the hell actually went on. Cig was going berserk on the sidelines during timeouts.

@iureactionary Yeah, it sucked, but we handled it and overcame. Cig was working them over we upped our physicality too, but it does pervert the sport. Reminded me of Pitino's Lville teams and the 80s GTown teams who I always felt their strategy was "be uber aggressive and see if they don't swallow their whistle a bit". Their DBs were regularly grabbing our guys jersey, and wrapping their hand up in it to hold and control them and keep it a bit hidden. It was high level cheating. The late shot on Cooper OOB and Mendoza were not.

Couldn't tell from where I was sitting, but was that monster hit our little-bitty CB laid on their WR late in the game discussed as a potential targeting? I was holding my breath until the next play was completely over.  Scared

@kkott i'll be rewatching the game later tonight but from the highlights i watched, that non call on cooper as he was going out of bounds gets called 90% of the time in the regular season...or at least a flag thrown then talked about by the crew.

the other one that was more egregious was the tug on coopers jersey. that's a td if he doesn't hold him.

also, the refs correctly called a blatant hold early on benson...and then didn't call any on blatant holds by miami!

i liked that they let the db's and wr's hand fight, but on a couple crucial plays, iu was being mugged, including the charlie becker deep shot back shoulder...had he dropped that while having his left shoulder pad pulled nearly under his chin, i'd have lost it.

@bucketgetter The one where Ponds clocked 87 and knocked the ball loose? I don't think there was any talk of targetting, but there was an earthquake in the living room I was watching in as we IU fans erupted and I missed a few seconds of telecast! That was a great play.

Yes, the one on Cooper was bad and I think jerked his head around and kept him from finding the ball. Like I said, I thought it was high level cheating and they weren't getting called, so, not cheating! But, I think they have a DB coach who's played in the league.

Yeah the announcers looked at it and gave their opinion, shoulder not helmet and not a foul, then asked their 'rules guy' and he also said not targeting just a hard football play.

It seemed close, to me, would've been called by some crews, as he did get the head a little bit and raised up through the hit. I also held my breath until I saw no flag. I thought it should not have been a flag, but we've seen them for a lot less.

Refs impacted the game, in Miami's favor, without question.

-Multiple late hits, that were more obvious than the one they called on Landino, that were "missed".

-Hit out of bounds on Cooper was obvious, and nearly always called.

-Hold on Cooper was obvious, and very well could have cost us a touchdown.

-Probably half a dozen missed PI calls (this was allowed, for the most part, both ways, so not as bothersome)

-Miami's offensive line was blatantly holding the entire 2nd half.  And on nearly every play, you could see IU guys get twisted up, which almost always draws flags, and they didn't really call any of them.

-After all that, to call that un sportsman like penalty on Sharpe and company... bullshit call.

I wonder what Tucker said to Fletcher in that pile up during the game.  Whatever it was, it got Fletcher, and a couple of the Miami lineman VERY fired up.  Something tells me Tucker wasn't perfectly innocent in the punching incident after the game.  Fletcher, I don't believe, is known to be that level of hothead.

The officiating was so bad that Sidney Powell was about to unleash the kraken on the entire crew.

They were bad all night.

Missed the opening drive roughing call that could have been targeting.

Missed a blatant hold on the Fletcher td run.

Missed the obvious PI call for Coop.

How they didn't see those three calls, I'll never figure that one out.   All were big plays out there.

I noticed that fans of other schools on reddit were 90% in the 'Indiana is getting hosed by no PI calls' and many also felt the lack of holding calls against Miami.

It wasn't just Indiana fans.

The player that bloodied Fernando’s mouth should have been tossed for that hit. That was textbook lead with the crown of the helmet targeting.

It’s mystifying that they somehow missed that.

Fernando sure wasn't thanking God for the officials after the game.

I dont think they missed it. But, maybe, on that one. I think they just willfully chose not to harm Miami s chances. But maybe they missed seeing the obvious helmet to chin smash. Maybe.

No way did they miss the hold against Cooper that likely prevented a deep completion or touchdown. The official just decided corruption was the way he wanted to go.

I can see how the field refs missed it but how did the replay booth not pick up on it? It wasn’t apparent in the stadium and there was no replay that showed it (everyone received texts about it from people watching on tv). Both team’s DBs were allowed to be physical (especially UMs) and holding in the interior was rarely called. Don’t know if it was “bad” but it was actually pretty consistent.
