That sucks. Looked like a real good back all-around and a willing blocker. Good pickup by Kentucky.

We did get Turbo and he looks high end to me.

Sammy posted earlier that IU rescinded their interest (not exact quote). If the IU staff decided not to take him I’m more than satisfied with that decision as I’m more interested in maintaining locker room culture and for whatever reason he wasn’t a fit I trust their judgment is spot on. Being highly rated doesn’t make him a good fit. As much as I enjoy seeing who is coming in I’m not going to be disappointed for anyone we don’t get. The right people will be in the building next season. Cig will see to that.

Smells like Baxter's agent or handler was shopping him around for a larger paycheck once he had an initial projected amount from IU.

They took the IU visit hoping to get a bump or bidding war going when brass tacks were discussed knowing they had Kentucky as a candidate landing spot in their back pocket to squeeze out a bit more cheddar from.

Likely his visit ended late morning, and no surprise a little over three hours later, after a drive down to Lexington, he was committed there.

Michael Bennett, OL from Yale committed to Oregon. Never visited INDIANA. if we commit Carter Smith & Joe Brunner, our OL will be solid.

@jackskip23 There won’t be collective bargaining unless there is a breakaway super league with a huge media deal to fund it.

Not sure that will have to happen. I think the players could easily exert their leverage, by way of their representation (who stand to earn big bucks), to force this to occur. Presidents won’t be active, since they never have been, but they’ll react to the assertive approach from the player’s side. Huge media deals are already funding what we have, by the way.

Yea well AD's are broke right now, by the way.  It's their fault, but the fact remains.

A lot more money would need to be found to fund what would come from collective bargaining.

And no, players could not easily exert their leverage, as there is pretty much no sign of players coming together to do anything on this.

Opt outs make it obvious how much leverage players have.

Just looking at the discussion over playoffs going forward - how many teams, how many guaranteed spots per conference, how many conference games would be required per season, etc - all these discussions are driven by the SEC, B1G and Notre Dame with the ACC and B12 maybe having some input around the edges.  But the B1G, SEC and Notre Dame are the drivers, and whatever they come up with (if anything different than today) the ACC and Big 12 will pretty much have to go along with.

The TV contracts for the ACC and B12 also come up somewhere in the 2030-2031 area, so any non-B1G and SEC school can look at what happened to the Pac-12 AND what happened to Oregon State and Washington State (and nearly Cal and Stanford) to understand that in the real world, they will either need to be attractive enough to join the B1G, the SEC, some kind of newly formed Super League ... or face relegation to the G6 (with the Pac 12 coming back in 2026).

As a long time Cal fan and adopted IU fan after my relocation to Indiana 6 years ago, I can attest to how desperate Cal was to join a P4 conference - any P4 conference - and how close Cal was to not getting into the ACC even after agreeing to a less than 50% share of ACC media revenue. Living through that existential crisis, everyone from the new Chancellor (1 year of service), GM (Ron Rivera, 1 year of service) and soon to be named AD to new HC understand Cal has to begin winning and elevate its brand value (currently ranked roughly 60-65th depending on which media service your subscribe to) ASAP.  Like if Cal isn't a CFP contender by 2027 and maintains that level of play in 2028, it may be all over for Cal in the next round of re-alignment discussions that will begin in earnest by then.

I think the media will push for something akin to a 40-48 team super league comprised mostly of SEC and B1G programs with the most valuable remaining brands from the ACC and B12 joining in.  I believe there will be some uncomfortable discussions behind closed doors about whether every B1G or SEC school gets into the super league, as media partners will be looking at what are the most valuable brands - and if, for instance, its a 40 team super league and the brand value of the bottom 3 B1G and SEC are well below the 40 team threshold, do those 3 teams get in at the expense of 3 other more valuable brands?

A simplistic example would be to look at IU's 2026 schedule.  No doubt the schedule was made for the current environment where you'd rather just have a guaranteed 3-0 start to the season before B1G play begins for bowl and CFP purposes.  Yet clearly the money driven media would much rather televise 3 other B1G opponents over North Texas, Howard and Western Kentucky - OR - maybe 1 additional P4 game from each of the other three P4 conferences over the aforementioned OCC games.  Multiply that by 40 P4 programs and that's 120 substantially more valuable games to telecast. Some of that additional value goes to the member schools, some of the money goes to players, some of that money goes to the TV execs.

Players and their agents will probably embrace this as there will be a lot more money to go around, it will be concentrated across only super league teams, and now agents and players can negotiate longer term guaranteed contracts that protect against injury or poor performance.

Ultimately any super league will have an anti-trust exemption that will allow it to establish all sorts of rules that model other professional leagues in terms of revenue sharing, player movement, scheduling, etc - but by the end of 2028, I think we'll see a ton more public discussion about Super League vs a P2 (and yes, Notre Dame would have to join instead of remain independent) in anticipation of the ACC and B12 likely splitting up by 2031.

Shazz Preston, coveted WR from Tulane has committed to Indiana. Paired with Nick Marsh that would be a dynamic duel.

@dht I really like your thoughts on the future of CFB/The Super League.  Just saying... might be a great topic to start a thread on since people may not catch it here.

Hopefully Purdue gets left out of any super conference. I’d love to see them wither on the vine.

Marsh, Becker and Preston are a good WR trio. The RB room looks great too. Add Brunner to the OL and this offense should be incredible.

I would argue that Amare Ferrell back is as big a keep as we've gotten in the portal.

There wasn't a number greater then zero with the chance Cig and Haines were ever going to let him leave.
