Nobody would ever turn down Notre Dame!

Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

My guess on this...IU is taking three edge players. Tobi Osunsanmi is one (and he's a freak athlete), Joshua Burnham is two and Chiddi Obiazor looks like he'll be number three. I think that will be it for the Hoosiers at EDGE/Stud. Great to get that done pretty early. On the interior, IU expects to return Mario Landino and Tyrique Tucker and I'd guess they bring in at least two DTs plus work on developing the current freshmen and incoming freshmen they have on the interior. Gilliam (PSU) is considering IU, Tennessee and Notre Dame and then the Tulsa DT is another known target.
We've thought for a while that IU is going to bring in a transfer class of something like 20. Obiazor would make eight. Two interior DL would be nine and ten. Sticking with the defensive side: one (Owen Long is considering IU and Arizona State), maybe two brings the total to 11/12. I think IU takes another safety so that's 12/13. Indiana has not been linked with any cornerbacks yet and we know they feel great about their younger guys plus Jamari Sharpe will be back. I'd guess they won't be pursuing anyone at this position UNLESS someone becomes available that they love.
Moving over to offense...what IU does with the offensive line really depends on what decision Carter Smith makes. We don't know if he's going to the NFL Draft or not but I'd guess the coaching staff already has a very good idea. I'll say the Hoosiers end up taking 2 to 3 offensive linemen but the encouraging play of Adedamola Ajani over the past few games makes me lean more towards 2 than 3. We'll put the overall total at 15 right now. Does IU take another running back? They'd have Richard, Beebe, Martin and Cuono plus incoming FR Jayreon Campbell (he'll almost certainly redshirt). That's probably enough but if a good value presents itself with a player they really like, I do think IU takes another one so that's 16 total. We know they'll be taking at least one tight end with Nowakowski departing. We believe Miami transfer Brock Schott could be one. He's a freak athlete with all kinds of potential but he'd give IU another redshirt freshman in that room and it would be incredibly young so I bet if Schott commits, they take a veteran TE. That moves the total to 18. Wide receiver looks well-stocked even if Omar Cooper goes pro. If he returns, that position is loaded once again. I do think IU is going to end up taking one more (Parker Livingstone is the known target right now) at that position and if Cooper goes pro, they might take two if they find skillsets they really like at the right cost. We'll add one more to the total so that's 19. Mitch McCarthy is graduating and I think IU takes another punter so that's number 20.
So, that's my hopefully not too wild guess/projection on the numbers for the portal class. Stay tuned over the next couple of weeks!

How likely is it that Cooper leaves?
Please keep the elementary school nonsense off here. I feel like I’m back at lunch duty with 1st graders. For 99% of the 34 pages it’s been great discourse and it’d suck if it got ruined because of name calling and insults
@jackskip23 last I heard IU thinks Cooper comes back and Carter Smith was a coin flip. That was a couple weeks ago though.

Thanks. What’s the word on Alberto, or are they keeping that quiet until the CFP finishes?
@jackskip23 I assume he would stay. The staff loves him. They needed a transfer QB anyway. However, any decision looks like it’ll be made after the Peach Bowl (that’s a total guess).
I have seen quite a few mock drafts that have Cooper going before Sarratt. I wouldn't be shocked if he went pro. If he stays he could improve his draft stock but with Marsh here he won't be the #1 receiver. Would love to see him stay though and hope @thehoosierhuddle is right.
@pazhoosier my first thought after reading Sammy’s response was that I can’t imagine Marsh not playing a role in the thought process. Next year he has to compete with Marsh, Morris coming back, and an emerging(emerged?) Charlie Becker. I have no doubt he is a competitor, but I’d also have to imagine that he knows he probably won’t have an increase in targets with another year.
@pazhoosier NIL is a game changer. Some mocks have Cooper going in the second round, others have him in the 4th round. I’m going off what I was told for a solid source.
It is no longer automatic that a guy who is mocked into a draft goes pro because they can get paid a nice chunk at IU and develop more. We’ll see. If he’s an early 2nd round pick I could see him going, anything later and I think he sticks around

Have heard that there’s been quite a bit of outreach from other programs for one of our receivers. I won’t name names but I’m sure people can figure out who it is. College football doesn’t feel much like college football any more.
@jackskip23 nope, it doesn’t and I’ll go on a rant about it after the season. Right now I’m enjoying this year, but clearly there are major issues.
I'm sure there is a lot of outreach on our roster. There was last year, and we kept pretty much all the key guys. Hopefully we can again -- IU is the place to be.
