Schott was offered by Indiana. I realize college sports is a big money business but for me it's strange to see a kid hit the portal when his team is still in the national championship hunt. There will be good offers remaining after the championship game.
I think this illustrates several issues surrounding timing of playoffs, portal, and, oh yeah, classes.
There are 1000's of kids in the portal, most without great options but at least seeking a change.
Someone like Schott, who coming out of HS was highly regarded but feels he's buried on the depth chart, may not have great options left if Miami makes it to the Championship Game as the portal window closes Jan 16 with the two Championship Game participants getting an extra 5 days after the 19th to declare).
By then, most programs will have pretty much filled out their transfer roster since there is no Spring Portal anymore.
There is also the logistic of actually getting to campus and starting classes. I am not 100% sure what the NCAA rule is, but I was under the impression the player has to be enrolled in classes at his new school to be eligible to then participate in Spring Ball.
I'm sure for top guys (like if Miami made it to the Championship Game and Malachi Toney stunningly announced for the portal on the 20th) schools would fall all over themselves figuring how to get him in - but not sure a back up TE has the same number of options or time flexibility.

Any chance Wheeler gets a year for his freshman year at a CC? Landino, Wheeler and a transfer would be really nice. Especially when you think about the talented young guys coming in with this class. It might allow us to float Landino around a little bit because he still looked good on the edge. Now if we can keep Tucker on campus, then we are really something on the interior

@boogie Yeah, IU coaches were given today off I believe and then will hit the ground running tomorrow or the 4th. IU landed around 3am ET this morning I think
