@unclemark we will have to wait and see but Alberto is a completely different type of QB.Great kid and great story but I’m afraid he will be recruited over and transfer.
Yes, if he's recruited over he's said he will transfer. Which I'd hate to see. The kid recruited his own brother to play ahead of him, but I'm sure he thinks it's his time this coming year and that he's earned a shot. And while I know CCC wouldn't make any hard and fast promises, I'd like to think he'd take Alberto's commitment into account. I know it's a different world, but I still think loyalty should play a part in the process. Two years (three?) of Alberto will keep the train running really well.
@unclemark I believe he said he would transfer if Fernando does not go pro this year. I don’t recall him saying anything about being recruited over and transferring. He will have to handle it. I think they will try to get a good G5 or lower division QB to give him a battle. He needs someone to sharpen his skills. That would also give IU a good backup if he were to get injured. That is what Ole Miss did this year and it worked out very well for them when their QB1 got injured the second game of the year.

If he would transfer upon his brother staying another year, then i think we can assume he would transfer if he gets portalled over

All fair points. Bottom line is if he's not projected to start next year, he'll go where he can. And in today's CFB world, I wouldn't blame him.
Could this clown ass announcing crew suck anymore?
@unclemark He's not going to get "recruited over" he will simply have to win the position in practice. We need another experienced QB for next year and he, along with Alberto and (hopefully) Cherry will fight for QB1. If Alberto isn't willing to earn the starting spot in practice, who needs him?
If we think we can get an upgrade from Alberto, we’ll take him, and if Alberto perceives that as the coaches think someone else should start, he’ll very likely leave. That’s how it works, especially in the portal era. Our starting center is only at IU because he got recruited over and eventually beat out at ND, so he left. That sort of competition in a program is the kind of culture change that has elevated us to where we are. Would suck for Alberto just like it did for Pat, but the ability to transfer lets players have immediate choices.
@jackskip23 True. The only issue this year is that the portal is only 2 weeks long and there is no spring portal so a player like Alberto would only have a few days left once he finds out who is being recruited to make a decision go into the portal and find another school. It will be tough.
That ridiculous portal window had to voted in by people connected to weaker programs. Trying to throw up roadblocks to transfers to more enticing programs. I.e, those likely to play in the post season.
Some may make their decision w/o a visit & there's no spring portal.
I think the thought is players need to be at the new school when semester starts. The playoffs getting longer doesn't help
I kind of looked at it from a different approach. Teams like IU that still need a lot of portal kids are going to have a tougher time building a great team. The blue bloods that already have good recruiting built up do not want the IUs and Vanderbilts building competitive teams through the portal. That ridiculous portal window had to voted in by people connected to weaker programs. IU put together a good portal class while preparing for its playoff game last season. Good coaching staffs adjust.
@iugradman yes, but they got both Wyatt and Daley in the spring portal, just as they did C. J. West the year before. Those guys have made a huge difference.
