As it stands running back depth is lacking for 2026. Martin, Beebe coming back from an injury, Sean Cuono with just 2 carries and Campbell as the only incoming freshman. Cignetti will definitely pick up another back in the portal and perhaps two.
Got to be a 1/2 ton of hard hitting RB's in that next tier below. The Mid, Colonial, USA and half dozen others drooling to showcase themselves in the B1G. Good hands will be priority.

Beebe's brother is in the portal from UAB. He is a RB who is a good kick returner. I could see him being a target if Cig likes him.
@pazhoosier Solomon Beebe was a reserve back and kick return specialist for UAB. Had a 96 yard kickoff return for a TD in 2025 and has rushed for 419 career yards with an impressive 5.4 yards per carry. He's recorded 33 career receptions and has two remaining years of eligibility. Named 3rd team all conference return specialist from the American Conference. Solomon crosses a few boxes and may well be a guy Cignetti wants on the roster.

A lot of JMU guys in the portal if Cig wants to go back that well. I imagine some will follow Chesney to UCLA but the older guys Cig recruited.
Another JMU player to watch. Recruited to JMU by Cig, but didn’t play much until Chesney arrived. interesting comments by BIP.

@mrhighlife - I agree. Coach is only worried about winning. He and the staff know better about where Alberto is. They also understand the need for depth. You can't be one injury away from the season being scrapped completely. Coach has said the same thing happens every year they bring in a new transfer QB. Things are so rough in the spring that they wonder if they are in trouble. Then they get better in fall camp and then really start to improve with each week/game during the season. With Alberto, there are no growing pains to worry about if he is who the staff wants him to be. If he's not, then we 100% need to look elsewhere.
I for one, think Albert is it and he will be a top half of the B1G type of QB and could be near the top.
I also like Alberto and I have questions about Hoovier. The guy has thrown a significant # of ints each year, and isn't anything special as a runner. I agree on spending the big $ elsewhere, and getting a veteran backup QB.
Maybe we can keep restocking with JMU players

For his career......71 passing TDs, 33 interceptions, 9 lost fumbles.
I like Alberto.....If we HAD to have another starting QB, would much rather have Sorsby. Taller, bigger, tougher.
@mushroomgod I wouldn't take Sorsby, plus he's headed to Texas Tech anyway.

Sorsby burnt a lot of bridges on his way out of Bloomington.
I would absolutely take the two mentioned in this thread. The RB and the CB. Especially the running back.Maybe we can keep restocking with JMU players
@pazhoosier I do think most of the JMU transfer portal guys (or let's say the most desirable ones) are headed to UCLA with Chesney. I imagine most of the JMU players entering the portal right now may have felt more "left behind" by Cignetti as he had "pick of the litter" and certainly offered those who he really wanted - based a lot of Cig's stated desire for actual proven production. Those following Chesney also get to UCLA with a higher likelihood of substantial playing time as UCLA's roster will need much more turnover than IU's returning roster.
Good point on UCLA, though for players looking for a program operating at a higher level hopefully we can make a compelling pitch.
I googled Chesney....he's not as good.. just kidding.
