@thehoosierhuddle Klatt seems to be fair and for the most part unbiased. I tend to agree with most of his takes. Some of these other guys give me a headache. Some of their stuff surely has to be click-bait.
@bucketgetter when you're in the car as much as I am...I'll take any CFB talk. Some are more off the rails than others.
I think it's the best 2 year coaching job ever, and don't think it's really close
There are some who still want to argue for Snyder, but I dont really see an argument for that. People say Snyder didnt have access to the portal which is true, but Snyder did heavily recruit older players out of JUCO, he was one of the first coaches to do that.
Snyder never reached the summit, Cig did, and that should end the conversation on whose turnaround was greater. Snyder coached for decades, at a certain point you are no longer the "turnaround" program - Miami and FSU were not powerhouses until Schnellenberger and Bowden flipped their programs, and they both won titles.
@hoosierdaddy Well put. And our roster last season cost something like ~$22M (per Cig in an article), and the "big" programs were $35M+. It's amazing what he did with that spend.
Starting next season we're one of the big spenders... I'm looking forward to seeing how that goes!
@tammany Where did you hear that info on next year? That's the first I've heard that...what's it actually mean? $30M+ for a roster?
@bucketgetter Yes. The source is me asking some people I know that work with our NIL efforts. Kind of a trust me bro situation. But other people who cover IUFB will tell you the same thing.
@tammany DAAAAYYYAAAAMM! That is a serious committment. As much as I loved the roster the last 2 years and look forward to seeing this year's crew, that kind of money can surely pull in a couple 5's and a bunch of 4's...or at least the best of the portal guys, right?
@bucketgetter you can already see the impact of having more resources in our portal class this year. 247 ranked us 8th, On3 ranked us 1st. They have very different ways of scoring (247 just rates it based on inbound transfers, On3 rates based on both inbound and penalizes for players transferring out). Basically we had one of the best transfer in classes, and also did a great job at retention (which also costs $$$). Keeping guys like Carter, Ferrell, Tucker, Jones etc is not cheap.
I appreciate On3 started re-ranking players who did not enter the portal... Nice to see guys like Carter Smith and Isaiah Jones as 5*s instead of everyone pretending they stink because they were lower rated out of HS.
@bucketgetter 24/7 has our latest portal class #8 and On3 has our portal class #1.
I get we have great talent eval and don't care too much about the "stars," but to get those rankings you've got to have serious money to spend.
@tammany Yeah, I haven't checked any of those sites because I tend to agree with Saban who railed last season about the guys giving out the stars with his epic quip "most of those guys don't know their a** from a handful of sand!" I just saw who we were losing and the guys he brought in to fill obvious holes in the roster. It's amazing how he keeps bringing in starter-level guys that seem to be a perfect plug and play. He and his staff have a unique knack for finding guys that buy in from day one and perform at tremendously high levels. Not very many other places can do that.
WHO THE HELL IS MEL KIPER?!
@dbmhoosier yeah…if it’s that Save College Sports thing…it’s not good.
1) Involving the government never works well, especially this version of it. It’s also unnecessary.
2) SCS is run by a Texas billionaire Cody Campbell
3) Not all parties have a seat at the table here (no current athlete, G6 schools)
4) Putting the whole sport under one Media rights deal may be a big issue.
