Its been a long, arduous and painful ride but, we've arrived gents. I've sincerely appreciated every speculation, nonsensical bickering match, piss poor predictions, and lack of belief that then became full on belief in this team....regardless, it's all came from the same infatuation for this program. I've thoroughly enjoyed this journey alongside all of you. ...well most of you. ,;) But really....Cheers to those before us and let's all make the most of this moment because we never know what the future holds.
As for the convicts in South Florida, we may not all be catholic in Indiana but we certainly know how to lay the law. Let's go get us that title!!!!!
Winning a national title wouldn’t wipe away thirty years of mismanagement and mediocrity in athletics, but it would clean some of it up.
I haven't taken a deep dive into Miami just yet so I won't give my breakdown right now, but off the bat IU has two advantages...Cig will coach circles around Cristobol and Fernando will be the best QB on the field. Don't forget Xavier Lucas (starting DB) will be out for the first half due to targeting against Ole Miss.
Mario does not do much coaching during games anymore. But in general the coaching work done over the last 9 months that shows up in the form of discipline and consistency etc will be a push at very best if we (Miami) are lucky. More likely will be advantage IU. I think Fernando has been the best QB on the field in every game he's played since last year's Cal/Miami game and that isn't changing here. His ability to pinpoint medium range balls to one on one is the single greatest game breaking advantage that either team will have in the game. I think your WRs have advantage over our DBs because of that as well. Our DBs i think are more than capable of playing your WRs to a draw or better in a vacuum, but when Mendoza is hot he can put the ball in places that no coverage can do anything about. Lucas will miss the first half most likely, but I suspect we are getting our two actual full time starters back from injury after not having them for a while.
Those Miami fans are idiots and I have politely told them as much. Every fan base has its share of idiots who post dumb stuff on message boards...Diehard lifelong cane fan here. Not coming to troll, I cant stand people who do that. I really appreciate learning about opponents by hearing what their die hard fans have to say as you all probably know more about your team than anyone im going to find on Youtube or ESPN. Beyond impressed with what you all have managed to do and I think we have to play our A+ game like ND / USF / Ohio State games to win and if we play our Fiesta Bowl game we will get boat raced.
As a total aside, and please take this in the friendly, non judgmental spirit with which this is offered, it is actually hurtful to us when people bring out the convicts and thugs tropes. Our guys are high character hard workers on the fields and in the classrooms and they care deeply about their community.
Good luck (but not too much luck!) next week and please feel free to pepper me with any questions on the stadium/traveling in Miami for any of you who are coming down.
Miami fans on your forum are questioning whether or not IU is cheating. Haha. But us saying "convicts" is offensive?
It is not hurtful to me personally, but it is hurtful to others who don't deserve it. We had players' parents subjected to chants from Ole Miss fans about how their sons are convicts and thugs who belong in prison instead of on the field just last week. That kind of behavior is sadly a common experience for our team and has been for years. The fan bases from more academically inclined institutions like IU are much classier in my experience and we don't see the same BS in those games.Gotta admit, it is stupid to be calling some other team convicts. And the they did it first on their boards is - I know you are, but what am I? - level.
That said, going on opposing message boards to cry about it (Hurtful? Message board throw away posts? Hurtful? ) is dumb too. Hopefully there will be some good interactions and information. I dont mind hearing the state of their fans.
And this was only an aside in my original post, not why I came here to post. I've already had good interactions with you all here and appreciate it.

Your guys earned that years ago. Not fair for the current guys, but it's not like it was made up out of thin air.

Kind of sad / kind of funny, but this post could so easily be talking about Miami that I was not even fully sure if it wasn't. Also winning the natty is gonna wipe away more bad memories than you think for whichever team gets it done. In any other context i'd be hoping for that to be you all.
Notre Dame literally had more players with a criminal conviction on their team than Miami when they rolled the phrase out. They knew what they were really saying as did everyone else. That kind of behavior is sadly a common experience for our team and has been for years. There are a few bad apples in every fan base. The whole “convicts” thing arose not from players who violated the law but rather from people who didn’t like brash, trash talking black kids. Sadly, you see that some people’s racial attitudes remain stuck in the nearest trailer park. Hopefully, the vast majority of fans are well past that nonsense.
About as good as you could hope for at this stage of a deep run. There is a decent chance that we have essentially our entire game 1 roster available by next week. Some dudes are nicked up in normal ways that you gotta just play through. There was a pretty problematic flu breakout that hit double digit number of players on the 2 deep last week and affected us in the Fiesta Bowl, I do not know where we stand with that but it hopefully does not impact game prep. What about you guys?@canecominginpeace how is the health of your team?
It doesn’t help Miami’s image when they allow Michael Irvin to act like a coked out idiot on the sideline.
C'mon, we all have that crazy uncle!

It came from a couple of college kids trying to make some cash selling t-shirts. It was catchy and stuck.
Exactly, you can determine its origination on a 30 for 30 episode on ESPN.

Absolutely, but it was also dripping with bigotry, something even the powers that be at Notre Dame understood quite clearly. I don’t think the kids that made the shirts intended for that to be the result, but it certainly created a pigment-focused Good versus Evil narrative that everyone with a functioning brain understood quite clearly.
