Indiana is one win away from cementing its legacy as one of the greatest college football teams in history.
- Indiana would be the first (sorry but Yale in 1894, before the leather helmet era, doesn't count) undefeated 16-win team in major college football history.
- Indiana hasn't just won; they've mostly crushed the opposition. They've won their nine regular season conference games and three post-season games by an average of 28 points.
- Indiana has defeated its two CFP opponents, Alabama and Oregon, by a combined 69 points.
- Indiana's latest victim, Oregon, is 38-5 over the past three seasons, losing only to national finalists (Washington, Ohio State and IU). Oregon has a top-5 roster as per recruiting rankings and will finish with a top-five SP+ ranking. Prior to last night, they were widely regarded as the second best team in the country.
- Speaking of SP+ rankings (and I've stolen this info from @hoosierdaddy ) eight of IU's wins this season are over Top 25 SP+ teams.
Indiana's sudden dominance defies explanation. I know CCC talks about planning, preparation, teamwork, execution, etc., but these aren't novel concepts. I feel like a hypothetical equivalent of Indiana's unprecedented ascendancy would be if a crappy MLB team like the Rockies were to win 120 regular season games, destroy their playoff opponents, and win the World Series in four.
Yes, the NIL/revenue-sharing/transfer portal era has changed things, but Cig has had no built-in advantage. He's worked it all to perfection, and no other P4 program has come close.
I know I'm jumping the gun here. There's one more game to go. But we're on the cusp of history, guys.
I refuse to entertain future thoughts further out then 6 seconds at a time. 😆
Yeah, we are kicking ass and taking names.
Whatever happens on the 19th(and I firmly believe IU will dominate) this is already a very historic season. No one at any time in any sport has come close to what Cig has done here. It is an unbelievable story.
