Josh Hoover was spectacular. That “great” defense didn’t show up.
First game sloppy. Still won by 36 and only gave up 16 points.
Hopefully injuries aren’t too bad. We need our CBs healthy (duh).
@lncolnpk Maybe from the standpoint of an uneven performance in the first game, but we REALLY struggled to score vs ODU last year and our offense was great this year. Had we switched to throwing, which was working, we might've been able to blow it out earlier. Had that sweet pass to Turbo and then didn't throw to the backs again that I recall. Lost both starting CBs and played 3+ quarters with backups, and also had Martin out, and UNT was really solid. The D line getting handled was the most concerning thing, but overall a pretty good first game. We won going away and have plenty to work on! I think a much better first game vs ODU last year. Hoover was excellent.
That was about what I expected.
Not very impressed with line play on either side of the ball but I know we are talented there.
Hope none of the injuries are long term.
@kelly_32 In the quick on field interview at the end, Cig mentioned losing both starting CBs, and immediately said "but, they'll be back." I didn't see what happened to Martin, but made me wonder if that one might be longer term, or just undetermined.
Very vanilla D today. Rotated a lot more than previous years. Not concerned about bad play. This looked like the staff was trying to see different players together etc..probably won’t see what this team really is for 5-6 weeks. Hoover is good. Only forced one throw from what I saw and completed it. Becker is so good.
I seen some bad technique on a few tackles out there which isn’t something I could say very often over the last two years. Thought I was watching the Colts once or twice. Just hope they can get it shored up.
Good analysis. I agree with what you said. I was at the game and the NT team impressed me. They really ran the ball hard. They will win a lot of games in their conference. @jj_mcclure they still..imho looked better on opening day this year. May not be the best defense in the country this year but I’ll bet it’s top 8-10. The offense looks pretty good other than being 3-4 ypc. I still think they are holding a lot back. Very very vanilla stuff. I’m not worried at all. Jmho
