Was it Jackson Arnold, John Mateer, or both that we pursued before Mendoza? I remember Cig started following at least one of them on Twitter, but I believe they chose not to come. Just have to marvel at how well that turned out for us and how bad it was for them. Although, Mateer was a Heisman candidate until the hand injury. Now we have Heismendoza leading us the an undefeated season who is now being projected as a potential top 2 pick in the draft. 😁
This staff does an exceptional job developing QBs. I don’t see why any QB wouldn’t want to play for Cig if he wants you.
Fernando was our first choice. Mareer didn't even enter the portal until like a week before we got Fernando. Arnold wasn't someone they tried to get.
Having Alberto on the team basically sealed the deal for us.
I’d like to believe you, but I follow Cig and multiple other IU coaches on Twitter and know without a doubt there was at least one of these two the staff started following right after they entered the portal if not both. I’m not saying they visited or gave us any serious consideration, but there was obvious interest from our staff. Both of these guys committed to their schools before Fernando. This isn’t a knock on Mendoza at all. Just pointing out how fortune favored us in this regard. I’m obviously pleased with how this turned out.Fernando was our first choice. I'm sure they did backgrounds on several different kids, but Fernando was always our #1 choice.
Pretty sure Mendoza was always the first pick with how quick we got him signed in the portal, but Miami and UGA were also going after Mendoza. Its normal to recruit / do due diligence on multiple guys who are available, you dont want to be SOL if the guy you want signs with someone else. Kind of like how we signed Cash after Fahey signed with OSU

Do you know if we pursued Bo Pribula? He appears to be now out for the season but was playing pretty well for Mizzou, although he’s no Fernando Mendoza.
@big-red-cb-v-2-0 I doubt we seriously looked at Pribula, senior this year who 56 passing attempts prior to this season. Doesnt seem to fit Cig's production mantra
I thought Penn State had made a mistake with Allar over Pribula. Based on seeing about a dozen passes thrown.

I didn't think he was great, yet, just good. 'Could do a lot worse' level. I didn't mind talk that had us in the mix. Cig would've coached him up. I feel good about who we have though!
