Some random comments about game day and one about the IU website:

--Sitting in the west stands on the 35 yard line or so on the south end.....the noise coming from the scoreboard is actually oppressive.  I love college football, but Good Lord I am not deaf.  If I am going to continue going to games I might have to take earmuffs.  And the band was totally silenced during the game.  I want to hear the band at a college game.  Leave all the BS hype for the pro game.  Is this normal these days?  In the past 10 years or so I've attended several Purdue games and several BSU games.  I don't recall the all-out deafening commercial blitz I experience at IU games.

--I'll also need a good pillow, so I can nap between all the TV delays.  I hate all the $$ wrapped up in the college game.  I stay, but I don't blame anyone for leaving all but the highly contested games.  I stay because I want to watch all the 2nd and 3rd stringers, but they really punish people actually attending the games.

--I used to be a program guy.  Bought one every game.  Now...no more programs, which is ok....but we can't afford a one page front and back roster for both teams?  Again, no consideration for those who are there to actually watch the game.

--Went to iuhoosiers.com today to look at the defensive stats from the game....nothing there.  Come on guys.

--I'm only one guy, but not going to personally attend anymore NC games against the likes of Old Dominion, Indiana State, or Kenesaw State, other than an opening game.  The AD can have his strategy, and I can have mine.

--Get off my yard.

Stats here:

Pretty good site https://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=604475&_gl=1*18z6ovh*_ga*MTMxNzY1MDkzNy4xNzU1ODE1MjM1*_ga_2ZWVK1X7BJ*czE3NTY1NzY1NTUkbzQkZzEkdDE3NTY1NzkwNzkkajYwJGwwJGgw

I agree a lot of what you are saying. Evening working in the radio booth, I get over stimulated but all the noise. The band needs to be featured more, the hype guy needs to stop yelling at me and yes, the IU site needs to be better.

An upgraded PA/speaker system would be a good idea for the stadium.  I’m on the north end, and there volume seems okay but it doesn’t sound great.  I’m no expert, but quality PA speakers can direct sound in pretty amazing ways and keep it balanced for all the fans no matter where they sit.

Plus, I’d add some LEDs that flash and do whatever to the music.  The Memorial Stadium atmosphere can get a little dead, so anything to contrive it and get people stimulated wouldn’t hurt.

Also, I agree, the DJ guy at the game should coordinate with the band and sometimes pipe the band through the PA.

Not a big deal to me, just some thoughts.

Not sure what defensive stats you're looking for, but here is the pretty standard stuff on iuhoosiers.com.

You're grouchy.

I’m near you and I do not like the PA either. I rarely can understand what they are saying. The hype guy can go to.

I had a great day with friends and family watching football and tailgating. Not sure why you had such a miserable time. They don’t sell programs because no one buys them anymore. You can read all this stuff on your phone, although it is difficult because of the cell issues at the stadium. The sound system is terrible so I’m not sure how exactly it was too loud. You’re going to be hurting when they replace it I guess. I get tired of the 4 minute tv timeouts too but no school is going to just let the band play for all the breaks. Got bills to pay. People want us to upgrade things and spend, but then whine we have to thank sponsors.

I go to games because I like watching football.

Replacing the PA is something they know needs done, but hasn't made the cut yet, financially.  I suspect it will, now that the field has been redone.

https://twitter.com/IUJGray/status/1960817918742028438

But given the current limitations of the existing PA, in order to get sound to the north end of the stadium, it's overly loud on the south side.  I sit at the 12 yard line on the south end, so I'm familiar.

I'm not big on Griffin Gonzalez myself, but I'm not everyone and he's likely not there to appeal to me.  And I've read for a long time how IU needs to replicate what big time programs do for game day.  Well, do you know what Ohio State does?  They have a hype man on a microphone for timeouts.

Games are entertainment and there are a myriad of different types of people attending these games for different reasons. Appealing to all of them is challenging.  I just want to watch football.  My kids want to watch football, but are also entertained by a lot of the other timeout stuff.  Some people are there for the concessions or the band.

Do you mean the PA system or Rob Lower? Because he’s been doing it for 20 years and does a great job.

@walt542   The thing about the hype guy....During the times when everyone is hot and bothered and the team has been playing like crap....calm down.  It's annoying as hell.  And completely ineffective and silly.  When a game lasts 3 1/2 hours, you have to pick your spots.

This stuff is scripted. They don’t just wing it.

It is loud. And it will get worse when they upgrade it.  I go to a lot of ND games. It's worse there since they upgraded and few years back.  Loud music lights .. they at least do feature their band quite a bit so .. and as far as the programs yeah, have to use your phone.

sorry Walt.

I told you why I had a miserable time.  Something about a 23 year old yelling at me for 3 hours.

I didn't ask for a program, I asked for a one page roster.  Again, reading comprehension.

I never suggested the band should continuously play during the TOs; that was the least they were ever permitted to play, in my recollection.

Why would I be hurting when they replace the sound system?  That makes no sense.

Try harder next time.

TV is great for a lot of things.  But ultimately it affects everything it touches, and ruins some things.  The in person viewing experience at college football games is one of those things.  The big games are still worth attending.  The trash games not so much.

I am pretty tough on IU's game day experience. I agree on a lot of the stuff that is brought up by the OP.

1. Bigger programs come with different approaches. Ohio State lets their band do a lot of the heavy lifting. They have some promotions and they do have an in-game Emcee, but she is not as active as IU's. Penn State is like a rock concert, especially during warmups. I don't recall them having an emcee, but the music is so much you couldn't tell.

2. Get used to the ads, they are not going away.

3. I am a hard copy program/media guide person myself as they are keep sakes and make looking up stuff a lot easier than looking it up on your phone or tablet. But I get it's a low return item. IU doesn't even give media members hard copies of the record book outside of a couple people. No paper game note either. It's a cost/environmental thing. It's a lot cheaper to create a PDF and post it than print a whole book of color pages 15,000+ times a week.

4. IU's website has been had bad information lately. The stats link for last game was for the Michigan game. However, they usually do a good job of posting the entire stat book in their recaps.

5. I won't tell people what to do with their money, but the light non-con slate will probably become a thing of the past sooner rather than later. The deadline for a new playoff format is December 1st and the Big Ten will follow whatever gets them the most teams in. There are rumors that the conference will add two teams down the road and that could mean 10 conference games (5 home/5 away). Even at 18 teams, I can see them moving to 10 conference games. So all the complaining about these games is like screaming into the void.
