What say you folks? Would it be cataclysmic for the rest of college football or is that an exaggeration?
I think this has already mostly happened given we've had quite a bit of success to date (but we are never satisfied...). Schools look at IU and think: if IU of all programs can do it, surely we can. We just gotta invest more in our program and bring over the right staff...
The problem for them is some more investment will help to some extent, but it's way harder than that. And there aren't many Cig's out there, in fact I think there is exactly one of them.
@tammany it's the difference between thinking I could climb Everest and doing it. In fact, it's way more rare. At this point, I'd guess a few thousand folks have topped Everest. As you point out: I think there's only 1 Cig so far!
I like this article. Looks like it is already happening. Schools cutting coaches lose quick. Go Hoosiers!
We are very lucky to even be in this position! Who knows what the college football landscape will be in 5-10 years from now! Could be totally different when the NCAA gets head out asses! Cig is an innovator! His success may not last forever, but let’s enjoy the ride while times are good!
It’s never been more important to be good in football. I am glad IU finally took the sport seriously.
@iugradman - Its funny that we always just wanted a bowl game. Then right when the bowl games lost all of their value, we skip annual bowl games and go straight to annual playoffs. IU, Georgia, OSU and Oregon are the only teams that repeated their CFP appearance.
LOL. They just can't handle it. Now we're being told that IU success will be the ruination of college football. What's next? Hoosiers eating all the pets?
I agree this is already happening. It all came so fast. It has my head in a whirl. These guys and the way they work together is really unique and very special, never happened before and will probably never happen again despite how much everyone loses patience. I cannot imagine how jealous all these other schools and their fans are. I certainly would be. That is creating great pressure for results that unfortunately no one else can deliver. It is going to be most interesting the next few years to see how this all shakes out.
@jj_mcclure They have to make the little guy the villain, we should know our place. Titles are only for blue bloods. Unless its basketball, than everyone wants the little guy to win and we are the big bad villain as a blue blood even thought we have won anything in forever.

In fact, an undefeated national title might take a little of the pressure off. Coaches can say "Come on. Be realistic. No one can repeat that. It's a one-in-a-million confluence of factors."
