Part of these polls and IU’s rankings are a combo of our terrible history in football and Cignetti being hated nationwide. There is not another single media outlet or fanbase that likes Cignetti. He’s Bob Knight for football. Outspoken and controversial. He is the shot in the arm the program needed after a nice coach who loved each other but lost out his final 3 years.
I never thought or expected IU to make a return trip to the CFP this year. I was hoping for 9 wins. I think we are more like 7 or maybe 8 wins but we have the coach to get the most out of these guys as we go through the year. Our DL replacements are not nearly what we had last year. That’s the Achilles Heel we’ll find out in these games.
No doubt we’ll play hard and compete but we are overmatched in personnel in definitely 2 games.
Cignetti isn’t hated nationwide.
Our ranking is pretty fair and based off respect from what this staff did last season.

ESPN shows that NC Central beat Southern. Southern is 1-2 with a win over Miss. Valley State.
So, yeah, ODU fans were down a bit after playing us, thinking it might show they wouldn't be all they were touted to be in the Sun Belt this year. But I think they will be fairly solid.

@thehoosierhuddle Good Sun Belt teams are no joke. Haven't been for a number of years now. Troy very nearly beat Clemson this past weekend. JMU is still very good, post Cig. And ODU is a pretty good Sun Belt team.
VT is -7.5 at home. That will be an interesting one.

That's illogical. The idea of polls is to look at the teams now, who they are playing, how they are playing them. This early in the season, ,o one knows what teams good and what ones are bad. That is determined each week by how teams are faring versus other opponents. Beyond that, IU did "Shellack" ODU.
If your claim is that not all voters are looking at box scores, that leads to the point people are griping about. It's a bit ridiculous to move Tennessee up 7 spots based on an FCS win. ND even moved up one, they didn't play this week and haven't even won a game yet!
