Since the Oregon game on social media or sports shows? I don’t even want to know how much time I’ve wasted but I cannot stop. I have been to every B1G school’s websites, everyone looking for a coach, etc. I’ll tell you this, Cig is dominating and EVERYONE wants him. Purdue has several threads about him, I need to stop this!! But it’s fun!

Yeah. Since Saturday night I have consumed way too much media and has consumed most of my days. I have watched so many podcasts and read on so many different forums to see fans of other teams reactions 😆

Same... Just saw a clickbait headline that Todd McShay had the bold take (yes, thats what it said) that Penn State should make a run at Cignetti.

I am in the same boat. Enjoying the Indiana coverage everywhere. Disappointed theres not more analysis out there to go check out. Its fun see Indiana rocking the boat for sure!

I did a search for "Cignetti" across the entire on3 network from Saturday on.  Holy smokes, that was great reading.

I really don't think Cig leaves IU. I don't What does Penn State have that IU doesn't or can't?

Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle

I guess I don't agree that IU can match everything Penn State can offer -- their athletic dept revenue is 50% higher than ours (as in ~$75M more per year), they can do more NIL, and they have the whole stadium thing.  Not that I think the stadium is a huge deal.

But, I think IU can match HC and staff comp and get close on NIL.  I also think IU has some intangibles PSU can't match, though I'm not sure exactly what those are.  Whatever the setup is here -- from alignment with Scott and Pam to autonomy to build and operate a football program to his exacting standards and processes without distraction (I think this might be really important), something is seriously working at IU.

And it may not work any better at PSU, there is risk.  As we've said, PSU is not a place where coaches are automatically national title contenders.  It's a tier II job, plus there will be some rebuilding there even for a turnaround master like Cig.

There are also other things like his wife will almost certainty prefer Bloomington to being in the middle of nowhere PA -- State College is 2.5 hours from a city and a very small town. Assuming we make the playoff, the hiring timing is tough.  And at IU you can be the legend, at PSU it will always be Joe and his complicated end.

Right now, generally speaking, the people closest to the program and who follow the nuances of CFB don't think he moves.  The folks making the most noise about how he may move are national and less connected guys.  I think he stays.  I'll start to get concerned if we (i) don't see new contracts, etc. for the staff during the regular reason, (ii) the local guys like Sammy hear something, and/or (iii) the betting odds move.

Personally, I'm thinking about the MSU game this weekend.  We've got a great team and you've got to enjoy it.

Didn't Cignetti say last year that he would stay as long as he had support from the admin? I'll just take him at his word, and not stress over it.

Wasted zero thought on the subject.  Cignetti is home and money, marbles or chalk are off the table as enticing.  As long as he has a significant input in the future of the program all is good.

Not me. I've been wondering what happens if 12-0 IU (and probably #2 because Cristobal is bound to shit the bed at some point) loses to 12-0, #1 OSU in the B1G Championship Game. If it's close, does IU still get a bye? Hmm.

In this scenario, the worst-case is a home playoff game as the #5 seed. Consider, though, that the #5 seed would play the lowest seeded team in the CFP, which would likely be a Group of 5 school like USF. Hosting ANY team in the CFP would be great, but USF wouldn't be nearly as exciting as playing, say, Georgia or ND.

IU just needs to run the table, including winning the B1G title, and go into the playoffs as a 1 seed. I'd take that.

@gthomas That is a fascinating scenario that is definitely plausible at this point. I think Miami is really good and I don't see them losing but the Mario factor is possible. What happens with seeding if the following occurs:

-Ohio State and IU are both 12-0, Ohio State wins the Big Ten with a 28-17 win in the Big Ten Championship Game.

-Miami is 13-0 and wins the ACC.

-Texas Tech is 13-0 and wins the Big 12.

-Alabama is 10-2 with one SEC loss, Texas A&M is 11-1 and they play in the SEC Championship Game...Alabama wins a close game and is 11-2 and SEC Champion.

-The top three seeds are clear but does Alabama get the 4-seed as the SEC Champion or does it go to IU who would be a 12-1 with a competitive loss to the #1 team? Would moving IU down from #2 or #3 to #5 be seen as punishing the Hoosiers for making the Big Ten Championship Game? Would IU get the 4-seed and the SEC Champion gets the 5-seed because of losses to FSU and say Oklahoma...and then A&M gets the 6-seed? I have no idea how it will play out, someone will almost certainly trip up and all the planning is for naught. Good problem to have!
