What a shame. Such a great player in college.
CBS Sports reported he died of a self inflicted gunshot. Just tragic. He was electric on the football field at Purdue.
This sucks, he was such a talented player.
sad
he definitely was hard on us
This one has really hit me hard. He always reminded me of Randel-El, just with his natural talent. Had really bad luck after a phenomenal freshman season. I remember the Tyler Trent game so well. But then he was injured his sophomore year and junior year was shortened Covid year. Back to back season ending injuries. From everything I’ve read and heard, a really good kid. Sad, sad news. Also, forgot he was friends with Romeo.

What sucks is that all the people around him -- friends, family, teammates, whatever -- are all going to look back and think of the possible "warning signs" (real or imagined) they might have missed and blame themselves.

Didn't read the story, so perhaps this was included, but I was told by someone who has many friends in that area that he did it in front of his GF.
@unclemark Yep, and that goes on for a LONG time or never stops. My Dad killed himself when I was 10 and it's the most selfish thing someone can do, but they have to be mentally ill or super depressed, or both to get there, so not thinking clearly. But, it's tragic for those you do love and you're burdening them in so many ways. If you ever approach being that depressed, find someone to talk to, and if you have anyone that you care about, don't do it for their sake.
Terrible news. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, is ever bad enough to do that.
@bucketgetter To you or to me...you are right but mental illness changes perspective drastically, and rarely in a good way.
RIP. The kid was butter and as close to ARE in the open field as I have seen.
So young, you wouldn't think CTE, but maybe it was there. If you get CTE from 1-2 seasons of college & NFL, then I wonder if flag football isn't going to have to take over at some point. I hope not.
Maybe make everyone wear those extra foam caps, starting in HS? Enough are doing it that we ought to be seeing some data as to whether it helps at least with concussion frequency.

It’s not just college and the NFL, it’s high school, middle school and youth leagues that start at 6 or 7 years of age. As we study this further, we’re likely to see a cumulative impact that began when kids were very young. This is heartbreaking stuff.
@shooter Good point on CTE. I wonder if they will check for that, I guess that's the family's call.
Very sad.
Sad news. Rondale was fun to watch. Talented. Seems like knee or some injuries ended his NFL career, he started strong.
The schools have said the hell with CTE, judging by the 16 game season we played instead of 12 or 13 games. The money is what talks. Hopefully more and more will wear the bobble head hats even if just optional.
