I park in Lot 11, but not with an RV. However, the atmosphere is lively and it's a short walk to the stadium. The only downside is a lack of toilets, but I would figure if you have an RV, that's not as important.

we’re in the auxiliary lot behind the softball and baseball fields.

good atmosphere overall. My only complaint is that there aren’t set spots.  It’s a free for all. There are always some d bags in there $500k rigs taking up way too much space like they own the place and trying to sneak in a bunch of passenger cars to park and party. A problem that’s only gotten worse the better the team has done.

@tmft that’s not an issue limited to that lot. I really hope the people running the lots do better

Been RVing for IUFB since 2008.  I'd consider myself one of the OGs of Gate 11 in its current configuration.

Like @thehoosierhuddle said it’s a good atmosphere & the short walk is nice when’s hot or rainy.  Plus, you can extend your tailgate time!  I like to say it’s where adults go to tailgate after they’ve outgrown the south lots.

If you have any specific questions let me know.  Be happy to help!

amen!

that’s why we took the leap. Being able to get into town the night before a game without traffic, then sleep in as long as we’d like and tailgate at our leisure, then not have to deal with any traffic on our way out makes it such a stress free weekend

My wife wants an RV. Maybe not when our kid is nearly two, but in the future. I would love an RV tailgate weekend in Bloomington. Do you guys rent, own?

Own.  I'd definitely rent a time or two before going all in (obviously a regular rig & not a DIY like us).  Especially traditional RVs where you have to figure out the hassle of dealing with plumbing/wastewater and all of that.

Also, depending on your comfort level driving something long.  I used to drive straight trucks for a job so a short bus was nothing.  I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be driving a full length coach.

As a small plus side (and getting smaller each day with fuel prices), at least with an RV you can typically get a camping spot for like $100-$200 for a weekend at an away game vs. spending $900 for some crappy hotel because of supply/demand (I'm looking in your direction Penn St.)

Own…We started in a Class C & then got a Class A.

@tmft advice is spot on.  Definitely rent something a few times to make sure it’s something you like doing (It’s not for everybody). Plus you learn driving, the systems, & things you definitely want in your own.

We also have Colts season tickets.  Between football & some state park visits, we feel like its been a good “investment.”

But you still have the coolest one! I remember some build threads. That is looking wicked.

Thanks!  It's in the shop right now getting some maintenance and a couple off-season upgrades so we won't be driving it down Thursday like we did last year.

  • replacing the bus door with a traditional RV door
  • getting a hitch receiver put on the back (hopefully)
  • trying to get them to install a bigger fuel tank so I don't have to stop every 3 hours to refuel (which will be key for the Rutgers & Nebraska trips this year)

One key one we started before we took it into the shop was pulling out the bus bench seat to replace it with a love seat that we can extend into another sleeping space.  Junior is already 5'7" and not even 12 yet.  And without hitting any part of puberty.  He's fixin to be a big boy and I'm not sure how much longer we'll be able to sleep at opposite ends of the couch comfortably.

@tmft Yes, I stopped by, I think it was at the spring game last year, and saw it. Very nice accommodations.
