@olympian97 the school's heisman campaign is only a couple months late, they should have kickstarted it after the Illinois game. Better late than never I guess
@hurryinghoosiers I dont think they are just the best on paper, I love our guys and wouldnt trade them but Smith is going to be a top 3 draft pick and Tate likely goes top 15. I would bet all 5 of their top 5 guys end up making the league
I don't watch OSU. Just a comment that being 5 stars don't always mean much.
@hoosierdaddy There are other players, it's not just a QB award. That's the Davey O'Brien Award. Julian Love from ND, Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech, Simpson may have lost it on Saturday, but he was right there. Jeremiah Smith is really good.
It's not a lock...yet. But he's a lock to be a finalist.
@hurryinghoosiers Their receivers are legit athletic freaks. I think the CFP committee chair even commented about OSU having "great playmakers" and referenced Smith and Tate. But, to your point, when you compared stats before Sarratt went down, he and Cooper were virtually identical to Smith and Tate in receptions and yards, but Sarratt and Cooper had more TDs, so productivity I'd give the edge to our guys, because TDs are really the goal.
@thehoosierhuddle "lock" is too strong to describe someone who is -125 betting odds, but I dont think any of the non-qb players are contenders. Rodriguez for instance, no player who is +15,000 has ever won the award this late in the season.
I also dont buy that Love is a serious candidate - his stats as an RB arent close to Heisman worthy. Fantastic player, but I dont know how he could win when he hasnt even had the best RB season this year (Hardy has played better competition, and has better yards per carry, yards, and touchdowns despite not having a passing offense to take pressure off)
Im pretty confident that Mendoza wins the award, regardless of the CCG result, if we dont struggle against Purdue. Texas getting blown out by UGA makes Reed's candidacy less likely, and I dont see a OSU QB winning the award when he has significantly less touchdowns and yards than recent buckeye QBs like Stroud, Fields or Haskins. Sayin has been a point guard, he hasnt been a star player in their games
@hoosierdaddy It would certainly help Mendoza’s odds with a 3,000-yard regular season and a good performance in the BTCFBG. If it’s Sayin vs. Mendoza that could be the battle for the Heisman
@thehoosierhuddle Definitely! My preference would be if he drops enough TDs on Purdue to where thats not even needed to win the award though 😉

Do you watch every Ohio State game?
If you’re interested in Fernando content.

I'm all for FM going for 375 yards and 5 or more TDs against Purdue so the pre game graphic has over 3,000 passing yards and 40 or more total TDs and 35 passing TDs going into that B1G conference championship game.
The sack, kneel down, and intentional safety adjusted rushing yards and TDs for FM needs a bigger public media push as Sayin and Simpson just don't compare.
Stockton and Reed have comparable rushing totals to FM but are not close with their passing stats.
OSU is also pushing Smith for Heisman.
Would be a chef's kiss to counter that narrative if Sarratt and/or Cooper exceed him in Receiving TDs.
@middawg IU just posted their campaign for him. We have done a number of Heismendoza pieces. He was on the PMS today and has done national hits for CBS, Fox and NBC.
We will see if IU makes a bigger push

Smith has no chance to be invited to the Heisman ceremony, let alone win it.
OSU intentionally plays a clock-chewing style of offense. Day wants to limit the total number of snaps that the offense takes. OSU isn't interested in putting up video game numbers. They just want to score, chew the clock, shut out the other team, remain healthy, win, and move onto the next game. Sayin, Smith, etc., could have monster numbers if Day wanted to scheme that way, but he doesn't. Our goal is to win a natty, not individual awards.

You think Cignetti gives a shit about individual rewards?

The "we play so few snaps" is one of my favorite nonsense plot lines of the season. IU's defense averages 0.2 more snaps per game than OSU's, and you dont hear any IU fans pounding their chest about it. We average 6.4 more plays a game on offense, but thats because we also average more first downs and run at a 60% clip opposed to 53%
Sorry gents. I meant no offense. I'll step out of this thread now.
