@dht Yes, Hoosiers Connect has been huge for football. IU also uses OpenDorse for those types of things. Players also have agents, whose job it is to find those opportunities.
Not early signing period but dont see the portal thread anymore. Klatt seems to think Leavitt is headed to IU

Take this for whatever its worth (or not worth)
@yothn It doesn't seem that this guy has any actual knowledge outside of "Sam Leavitt would do well at IU". I don't see IU going after him and this is the only place I see it as a target. I will put some feelers out, but who ever gets Leavitt is going to overpay for an injury prone QB.
I could be wrong, but I don't think this is the QB Iu goes after based on what I have heard from people about the staff's thoughts on Alberto. Heck, Brendan Sorsby is reportedly commanding $4.5 million
@thehoosierhuddle 4.5m for Sorsby is crazy. Good QB but not great. His floor is really low when he has a bad day.
Indiana's/Coach Cignetti's QBs are taller generally than 6-2, more in the 6-5 range. OTOH, I see our old friend Ju Ju Lewis has entered the portal from Colo. Not sure Indiana has any interest?
@red-hornet Lewis has no experience at all. He jerked around IU's staff before and his price tag isn't worth it. Hard pass.
IU has Alberto, it seems like they trust him to be the No. 1 guy next year. They're not dropping major money on a QB when they can spread it around. They'll get a portal QB or two, but if you're presumed starter is in-house, no need to drop $3-5 million on an unproven guy.
Next season will be Alberto’s third year in the program. I trust the staff’s ability to develop players - including Alberto Mendoza. Spend that money on OL, DL and edge rushers and let’s go!
@thehoosierhuddle I guess we can agree to disagree on Alberto's pedigree. Let's see what our staff does with the open portal.
@thehoosierhuddle I can say, watching Fenando up close when he came to Cal as an afterthought last minute offer (one of Bill Musgrave's few positive decisions as Cal's OC) to opening up a few eyes from the Spring Practice stands (Cal, in the past, used to have some open practices during Spring Ball which I attended for fun) enough that a few of us thought he should have at least been QB2 going into 2023.
He obviously continued to work his arse off and was ready to step in when QB1 and QB2 both proved neither was a P4 QB midway through the 2023 season. At season end, he was very honest with himself evaluating the advice of various football people to know what he needed to work on and by kickoff 2024 had worked hard and taken another impressive leap forward. By end of 2024, it became clear if he could make another similar leap in 2025, he could be a legit NFL prospect.
Of course no one (I shouldn't say no one, I am sure there will be people who now claim to have known, lol) knew he'd blow up into a Heisman favorite and certain Top 5 if not #1 pick in the NFL draft. I think the biggest difference I have seen this season isn't all the improvements he's made physically, but his mental toughness.
His last start at Cal he led the Bears on a 98-yard game winning TD drive against our arch-rival Stanford in the 4th quarter - ironically hitting Jonathan Brady of all people, for the game winner as he was being crushed by a Stanford defender. This year, seeing him bounce back after throwing a game-typing pick-6 at Oregon, lead IU 80 yard for the game winner at Penn State, and of course hit the game clinching pass vs Ohio State a few days ago, his mental toughness is off the charts this season.
I mention all this to say, if Alberto has anywhere near his brother's work ethic. mental toughness and football intelligence with the benefit of 2 years now in the same system, it wouldn't shock me at all to see him step in and be a good P4 QB from the jump next season and take another jump a year later. He'll also have had the benefit of watching and learning how to be a leader on and off the field as well as handling all the pressure of being QB1 for a National Title contender from his own brother.
Cignetti and staff have done an amazing job identifying and developing talent. If he says he's ready to roll with Alberto, there is no doubt Alberto will be ready to answer the bell.
My only doubt about bringing in a big name transfer is if we are bringing them in to compete with Alberto the lack of a spring portal makes it less likely someone looking to come here to start is going to come knowing they will have to compete with a predetermined starter with no opportunity to transfer if they don’t win the starting job after spring ball. The last thing we need is for someone to pull a McCulley and quit on the team after 4 games. I have said it many times, but if we were going after a starter I feel Mestemaker fits Cig perfectly and I think would be another Heisman contender in our system. I think we are all in on Alberto and I will end up with a lesser known name. For those wanting Colton Joseph I can see that working out as a more realistic option than Mestemaker. I think Alberto will be good, but I do think it’s critical to have a good backup because I think with his better athleticism he looks to run more than Fernando and may expose himself to potential injury more. Joseph’s game may be more similar to Alberto’s which would probably help running a similar offense built to similar strengths.

The way the recruiting process played out with Lewis, there's a better chance of IU recruiting Sammy for qb then Lewis.
@boogie I would be an NIL bargain too. I'll settle for high six figures. I am a recess legend

Jordan McCloud at JMU under Cig won conference POY at 6'0". He has been successful with a bunch of different types of QBs. Todd Centeio 2022 JMU QB was also 6'0". Cole Johnson (JMU -2020-2021) was 6'5". Ben Denucci (2019) was 6'3".
Alberto is 6'2".

I clicked on this thread because it showed it had a “new” post. It does not.
This has happened several times before on different threads. Then when you open the thread it opens at the beginning/page one, not the most recent post. Then finally get to the end and…nothing (no new post).
Do you know why this happens and can you prevent it from doing so.
On the site before this one, if someone wanted to revitalize a buried thread the OP would post “bump” and it would bump it up. At least then when you opened it, it went to the most recent post.
I appreciate your help. Thank you!
