If we take care of business these final two games, we will have comfortable second half leads in both and will be able to rotate plenty of our second unit in both for rest and for future development, all while getting our starters lots of reps to stay sharp. Combine that with our bye and three weeks off after the BIG Championship, and we should be raring to go come New Years Day.
I didn't want to start a new thread on this...not something I want to highlight or anything...
But can someone that's smarter than I am, football wise, or that might have some metrics available... tell me whether or not Jamari Sharpe is actually a good football player (relative to the rest of the team)? He's the one guy on the team, right now, that's standing out to me as just not being very good. He looks like he's getting beat, routinely, in coverage, and he whiffs on more tackles than he gets in on, seemingly.
***all the disclaimers about us being undefeated, him being a starter on number 2 team in country... all that, I get it. He may be great. And I admit my depth of knowledge on the subject is very shallow.
@iunorth he supposedly runs a 4.3 but his play speed is slow
I don’t get how knighten isn’t getting snaps over him, and I’m bummed we let Jamier Johnson leave. Johnson had a lower ceiling but he was consistent and reliable
Sharpe is OK, but he gives larger cushions than it seems he needs to, as if he isnt sure of the play.
He also seems to go 90% until he understands for sure that its his play to make. But then sometimes its too late. Like that long Penn State run by Singleton when Ponds got picked by the official. Sharpe was right there... ? But he kept a step in reserve as if he was making sure he kept him to the inside then when Singleton blew past him he only then got to top speed himself. Ponds outran him and had to make the play. In real time I yelled because I saw Sharpe was not busting it right away. Easy to say though, maybe they are taught the way he plays it, dont overrun the play.
Willy Mays peeve was outfielders who ran at the right pace to track the ball down. He said, no, go full speed to where the ball is going to be, then wait for it. Wish Sharpe played that way.
And Sharpe wiffed on the tackle on their other touchdown when his guy made the grab. Ok, guy got open, turned you the wrong way, stuff happens, but dont compound it.
I guess Sharpe is just not natural. He does make some plays. But IMO he played a big role in two Penn State touchdowns.
Not sure if I'm seeing something that doesn't exist. I thought we looked tired in Q4 at PSU. They looked fresher. Thoughts?
PS - Jumping around screaming like a little kid. Love this team. Go Hoosiers!

After the last two weeks, I’d say the resounding answer is YES. Bring on the buy week…
They looked weary in the first half then played like a top five team in the second. This is where a lack of depth hurts. Hopefully Sarratt, Kamara and Evans heal up soon and Benson learns how to block again.

Sharpe is OK. Sure, he gets beat at times, but he’s made a couple big plays. He’s not Ponds, that’s for sure. However, he’s not Leslie Majors either.
