The Penn State search has been/is fascinating. There were rumors of Kalen DeBoer wanting out at Alabama and talking to PSU, Marcus Freeman doing the same (zero belief in that), Mike Elko being the top target before his extension at Texas A&M and then a "mystery candidate" that apparently ends up being Kalani Sitake of BYU. If you don't remember, many wanted PSU athletic director Pat Kraft instead of Scott Dolson but Kraft is now under intense pressure at things drag on in State College.
If you believe the current discourse, Sitake is Penn State's top target and they were confident they had a deal in place on Sunday night. BYU rallies some big money donors and they go around the AD to "the Church" to get approval for boosters to pay the salary of Sitake and his staff. There is now an all-out effort to get a massive raise plus NIL resources that will rival Texas Tech's in order to keep Sitake in Provo. If that public pursuit falls through, can they pivot to Bob Chesney (who will not sign his deal with UCLA until this weekend) and grab him? If not, is Brohm the target or do they just keep Terry Smith? Regardless, it's a messy situation and all eyes on it, for better or worse.

@tjinman1987 It seems the major lure for Kiffin was recruiting. You have to rely much heavier on the portal at Ole Miss. LSU is a destination football school. Maybe he was sick of buying his team from other teams.
PSU did get Franklin’s buyout down to $9M with the offset.
But yea, this doesn’t seem to be going well. Which is nice.
