Clock management at the end

Glad we won but Cig had some baffling clock decisions at the end that nearly cost us the game.

Letting Minnesota run the clock down to 24 seconds when you could have had a minute or so whether they make the kick or not.

Not calling a timeout after Beckers catch with 13 seconds left. Somebody needs to tell him he was not out of bounds and the clock will roll. Had Marsh caught that pass the game would have been over right there with no chance for a field goal.

I would hope they have someone on staff that can help with these clock decisions at the end of the game.

Cig clearly thought Becker was OOB as he was pointing at the sideline after the incompletion while yelling at the ref

@lncolnpk whether he thought that or Not he still had two timeouts to use with very little time since he foolishly held onto them for the Minnesota kick. Nothing will ever explain that as a good decision. I would love for him to come out this week and say that it was a poor decision. Even if Minnesota went for it on fourth down and got it they still had two timeouts left so plenty of time for them to do whatever they wanted.

Agree. Timeout should have been called and clarification of out of bounds or not should have been asked for immediately

And why he let Minnesota run the clock down with two timeouts left baffles me as well

Agreed. Call the timeout anyway and set up your next play. With 13 seconds you probably only have 2 more plays left. Head scratching decisions that I hope and think Cig will look at and reevaluate what he did.

What does it matter at this point?  At the end of the day, IU won.  I'm sure all these armchair QBs know better than the greatest football coach Indiana has ever seen.  I don't think Cig is the kind of coach that's too stubborn to learn from his mistakes.  On to the next game.

@iugradbamadad There's no availability this week with the bye week, but cig did address it post-game. He explained his reasoning, while we all probably disagree with it, he did explain it.

Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle

@auburnhoosier

best doesn’t mean infallible. Having to bank on a 60 yard FG was a result of objectively poor clock management.

again it doesn’t mean that he’s not built a Hall of Fame resume in 2 1/2 years (regardless of his prior career) or that he’s not the best current HC in college football.

it’s a discussion board. Folks are just discussing.
