@thehoosierhuddle it will be interesting to see what the QB backup minutes look like in these early games. I fully expect in the first blowout, it will be Wilson just to shake off any rust. After that, I think they'll also give some snaps to Cherry to gauge his progress. The real test will be who comes in in a game that counts if Hoover were to get injured or comes out for any reason. In the first half of the season, I expect that will be Wilson but if Cherry could be the guy next year, I think at some point it might tilt in his favor.

Sorry, the story distracted me by veering into QB play. Still just unbelievable to me that the NCAA decided to challenge this. It only affected 1 class, and is consistent with the 5/5 policy anyway, so why not just move on? I expect any appeal by them will be successful and they'll be back eligible at some point in the precon.

@kkott I had eyes rolled at me by certain members of the press core when I said in the spring that Wilson and not Cherry is QB 2, so this was validating and not at all shocking.

Like I’ve said on every podcast, if Hoover goes down it’ll be Wilson and then Cherry in mop up duty. Cherry is the key to how you build your roster for 2027.

@thehoosierhuddle That's surprising to me. I don't know why in the world anyone, especially writers/journalists, would've thought Cherry might've jumped Wilson, especially before the last few weeks, when Cherry's been getting some 2nd team snaps. I always believed if Cherry could be the starter next year, he could jump Wilson as the primary backup, but I wouldn't expect that to happen until later in the season. Even then, with this staff it seems unlikely they're gonna put someone with so few live reps in game situations into the fire.

@kkott People get too tied into their predictions becoming reality. They all thought he’d move past Wilson because he’s a better talent and severely discounted that he hadn’t played football in over a year.

It’s like come on folks, let’s use our brains here.

So when are they filing a lawsuit to get an injunction in state court? The clock is ticking.

@iugradman I would guess it's been done already. No reason for them to announce it. I don't see any advantage to it.

If mop up duty in a game that is already decided, then I hope Cherry gets some play.  I think it would be hard for him to be the 2027 plan if he doesn't get any playing time this year.

Maybe there will be time for both Wilson and Cherry to get mop up duty in the early season blowouts.

To those asking or wondering about Daly and Wyatt.

My .02.

The optimal strategy here is to not be the first Hog at the feeding trough.

Let others play it out, and then devise the winning strategy based upon what's learned from other filings and rulings.

You want these guys to get some game reps a game or two before Oct 17.

Time is on their side as long as their able to practice

@middawg they are able to practice. How many reps they’re given is a mystery

Do we even know how close to 100% they might be?
